This guide shows you how to build an order on the eMenu Now POS till app. Follow the steps in order. Each step tells you what to tap and what you will see on screen.
Step 1. Choose the type of item you want to add
Open the ordering screen on the till.
You can add 2 types of item to an order:
Custom item. Use this for anything that is not on your menu. You set the price and the description yourself.
Listed products. These are the items already loaded from your menu. You do not type anything in. You just tap the item you want.
Step 2. Add a custom item
Tap Custom Item on the ordering screen.
Type in a description for the item, so the kitchen or the bar knows what has been ordered.
Type in the price you want to charge. There is no set price for a custom item, so whatever you enter is what the customer pays.
Confirm the item to add it to the order.
Step 3. Add a product from your menu
To add something that is already on your menu, tap it in the list of listed products.
These items come preloaded from your menu, so the name and the price are already set for you.
Step 4. Check the stock level before you add the item
The till shows a stock level against each item. It also shows a stock level against each modifier, so you can see how much is left of an extra or a topping as well as the main item.
Read the stock level before you add the item. If there is not enough left, tell the customer now rather than after the order has gone to the kitchen.
Step 5. Watch for the red Critically Low warning
When an item is nearly out of stock, a red warning appears against it that says Critically Low.
You will see this when only a small number is left, for example 2 or 3 remaining.
Critically Low means the item is nearly out. Check with the kitchen or the bar before you promise it to the customer.
Step 6. Choose the modifiers
Some products have modifier groups, such as a choice of sauce or a choice of side.
Each modifier group tells you how many options you must choose and the maximum number you are allowed to choose.
Choose at least the number the group asks for. You cannot go past the maximum.
Each modifier also shows its own stock level, so you can see whether the option is still available.
Step 7. Check the cart count and go to checkout
The cart icon sits at the top of the screen. Every time you add an item, the number on the cart icon goes up, so it always shows the running total of items you have added.
Use that number as a quick check that nothing has been added twice and nothing has been missed.
When you have added everything the customer wants, tap the cart icon at the top to move on to checkout.
If the order will not go through
There are 2 things that commonly stop staff part way through an order.
The item shows Critically Low. Stock is nearly out. Only a small number is left, so check availability before you carry on.
A modifier group is not complete. The order will not continue until you have chosen the minimum number of options that group asks for. Go back to the item and pick the missing options.
