Confirmation of Payee is a security feature built into Emerge that gives you more confidence when you send or receive payments.
It helps check whether the account details you’ve entered match the person or business you intend to pay - so you can feel more confident your money is going where it should.
Why Confirmation of Payee matters
When you make a payment, especially to a new payee, small mistakes or fraudulent accounts can lead to money going to the wrong place. Scammers often rely on small errors or subtle changes in account details to trick people.
Confirmation of Payee is designed to reduce that risk by giving you trusted verification information before you send money. It’s not a guarantee, but it gives you an extra signal to pause and double-check when something doesn’t look right.
How it works in Emerge
When you add a new payee, we automatically check their account details against trusted industry verification data, including:
Account name
Account number
Bank
You’ll then see a result in the app so you can decide whether to proceed.
This check may also be used when someone pays you from another bank, meaning their bank can verify your details before the payment is sent.
What the results mean
You’ll see one of four possible results:
✔️ Match
The account name, number, and bank match the verification data.
You’re good to go.
🔄 Partial match
The details are close, but not exact.
This can happen if:
A name is spelled slightly differently
A nickname is used instead of a full legal name
There’s a small typo in the account details
Take a moment to double-check the details with the person or business you’re paying.
❌ No match
The account name and number don’t match the verification data.
This could mean:
A mistake in the account details
The wrong account number
The name doesn’t match the account
We recommend confirming the details before proceeding.
⚪ Account couldn’t be checked
We weren’t able to verify the account because the bank or non-bank isn’t currently part of the Confirmation of Payee scheme.
This doesn’t mean the payment is unsafe. It simply means verification isn’t available for that account. You can still proceed, but it’s a good idea to double-check the details if you’re unsure.
Can I still make the payment?
Yes. Confirmation of Payee does not block payments.
It gives you clear information so you can make an informed decision. If you see a partial match, no match, or an account that couldn’t be checked, that’s your cue to pause and double-check before sending.
What this means when someone pays you
When someone pays you from another bank, their bank may also use Confirmation of Payee to check your details before sending the payment.
This helps both sides feel more confident that money is being sent to the right place and reduces the risk of misdirected payments.
How this helps you
Confirmation of Payee gives you:
More confidence when making payments
Better visibility into whether details line up
An extra prompt to double-check before money leaves your account
Peace of mind that modern payment protections are built into Emerge
When you’ll see it
You’ll see Confirmation of Payee when you:
Add a new payee in the Emerge app
Make a first-time payment to someone you haven’t paid before
If a payee’s details can’t be verified, we’ll show you that result before you send.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Confirmation of Payee 100% fraud protection?
No. No single tool can prevent all fraud. Confirmation of Payee gives you more information so you can make an informed decision, but it’s still important to be cautious if something feels off.
Why doesn’t it block payments?
Because you’re in control. We give you the information and let you decide what to do next.
Does this work for every payment?
Confirmation of Payee applies when adding new payees. Some accounts can’t be checked if the other bank or non-bank isn’t part of the scheme.
