How do I set up EmergePay Scan?
If itâs the first time using EmergePay Scan for your business, there is a short setup for an Admin or Owner to complete. Either tap the QR symbol on the top-right of your home screen or head to Manage > EmergePay, and enter a few details. These details are:
Settlement Account
We give you the option of which account you want payments to settle into. All transactions processed through EmergePay will land in the selected account.
â ïž Please note that you wonât be able to change your settlement account after you have selected one.
Transaction Title
This is how the EmergePay transaction will appear in your History.
Processing Fee
There is a 1.5% merchant service processing fee that comes from our card issuer and acquirer. We give you the choice as to whether you pass this fee on to the customer or absorb the fee yourself.
How do I create an EmergePay Scan?
Once an Admin or an Owner has set up EmergePay Scan on Emerge, anyone can set up the following two types of QR codes:
Open QR
This QR code allows for the payer to select the amount. Open QR payments are helpful in cases like a âdigital honesty boxâ where you display an Open QR code for people to choose their donation amount.
Fixed QR
By selecting New payment, the business owner determines the amount for the QR code. You have the ability to swipe right for a calculator function or swipe left to enter the total amount. Fixed QR codes are useful in instances where you are invoicing on the go, whether youâre a tradie making a home visit or selling items at a farmers market.
Both codes can be shared by copying the link or the share button on the top-right corner of the QR code.
All QR codes have a maximum limit of $500 per transaction and a total of $5000 per month.
How does EmergePay QR work?
A customer scans the QR code on their phone, which will open a tab in their web browser to facilitate the transaction payment. The customer will be able to see the transaction details and make a payment by card.
Once the customer has completed the payment successfully, a success message will display on the customer's and business ownerâs phone, and the transaction will be recorded in your Emerge History.
If the transaction fails (either due to insufficient funds or network error) then an unsuccessful message will show on both the customer's and business owner's phone. A declined transaction will not show in your Emerge History.
âĄïž Transactions are processed virtually instantly, so no more waiting for two hours for the money to show in your account!
Transaction details
For businesses, transactions in your History view will show the Transaction ID, a unique identifier for each transaction. Think of it like an invoice number. When you tap into a specific transaction on the transaction list, the transaction title will show and the following details:
For customers that pay by a non-Emerge card, transactions will appear on their statement showing Emerge Auckland
or Emerge Auckland NZ
.
Receipts
We currently email customers a proof of transaction that contains Payment number, Payment date, Payment method, and Payment amount. We're working on bringing line-item detail in the future!
Refunds
For the time being, Emerge does not have the ability to facilitate refunds on QR transactions. If you find yourself needing to refund a customer, you will need to do so via a bank transfer.
FAQs
How do I protect myself from QR scams?
Customers using EmergePay Scan should always check if the URL is https://pay.emerge.nz and that the webpage is secure before entering any information. If the URL does not contain https://pay.emerge.nz or the webpage is not secure, it should be considered as suspicious and double-check whether the payment request is legitimate.
Are QR payments safe?
Yes! QR codes are used internationally for payments and are considered to be safe because they canât be âhackedâ. QR codes securely transmit encrypted payment information directly to the payment processor, reducing the risk of card data theft. Additionally, since no physical card is required, there's less chance of skimming or data interception during transactions.
Do my customers need to be on Emerge to use EmergePay Scan?
No, the benefit of opening a web session means anyone can pay via EmergePay Scan!
Who is Windcave?
Windcave is a New Zealand-based company that provides secure electronic payment solutions. They offer a wide range of payment processing services, including point-of-sale (POS) systems, e-commerce payment gateways, and mobile payment options. Can I use my Emerge card to pay EmergePay Scan transactions?
Unfortunately, at this stage, Windcave does not accept pre-paid debit cards for this type of service. We are working on it with them, though!
Do you store customer card details?
No, those are for your customer and your customer alone đ€«
Why is there a 1.5% fee per transaction?
Windcave charges 1.5% per transaction in order to process debit and credit card transactions.
When should I use EmergePay QR?
Your imagination is the limit! We envisioned EmergePay Scan for sole traders and businesses that only need to take occasional payments e.g. a tradie or store that has a low volume of transactions like a farmers' market stall.
Once EmergePay Scan has been set up, can I remove it?
EmergePay Scan is a free service so it cannot be removed once it's been enabled.
Can team members see EmergePay Scan or set one up?
Team members can only create a QR code once an Admin or Owner has enabled EmergePay Scan for the business. The transaction History will show which team member created the QR code.
How much does it cost?
EmergePay Scan will be free to use. Scan away! đ«
