Trouble connecting to Emerge?

How to solve any access problems to Emerge

Written by Jody Cruttenden

If Emerge isn't loading or you're having trouble signing in, don't panic. Most connection issues are caused by your device or network and can be fixed in a couple of minutes.

Work through the steps below in order. They go from the quickest fixes to the more technical ones.

1. Check your internet connection

First, make sure you're actually connected to the internet. Open Safari (or any other web browser) and try loading a website.

  • The website loads: Great. Your internet is working, so the issue is likely specific to Emerge or your device.

  • The website doesn't load: Try switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data, or restart your router if you're on Wi-Fi.

2. Try a different network

Some networks block or restrict certain types of traffic.

Office networks, hotels, schools and public Wi-Fi are the most common offenders. Try switching to mobile data or another Wi-Fi network and see if Emerge connects.

Using a work device?

Some businesses use corporate firewalls or web filtering software that can block access to certain apps and services. If you're using a work-managed device or connected to your company's Wi-Fi, try switching to mobile data or a personal network first.

If that fixes the issue, you may need to ask your IT team to whitelist Emerge on your organisation's firewall or web filtering service.

3. Check for VPNs or work device restrictions

VPNs, work-managed devices and some privacy apps can prevent Emerge from connecting.

Head to Settings → General → VPN & Device Management.

Things to look for:

  • Turn off any active VPN and try again.

  • Privacy, ad-blocking and parental control apps sometimes install themselves as VPNs too.

  • If your phone is managed by your employer (an MDM profile), your organisation may be blocking access. If possible, try using a personal device instead.

4. Check your Wi-Fi settings

Some networks use custom settings that can interfere with app connections.

Go to Settings → Wi-Fi, tap the ⓘ next to your network and check:

Configure DNS

If it's set to Manual, switch it back to Automatic.

Configure Proxy

If it's set to Manual or Automatic, try switching it to Off.

5. Check your mobile data settings

If Emerge only isn't working on mobile data:

Go to Settings → Cellular and scroll down to Emerge.bMake sure mobile data is turned on for the app.

While you're there, it's also worth checking that Low Data Mode is turned off, as this can sometimes restrict app connections.

6. Check your device settings

A couple of device settings can stop secure connections from working properly.

Date & Time

Go to Settings → General → Date & Time and make sure Set Automatically is turned on.

Private Relay

If you use iCloud Private Relay, try turning it off temporarily. Go to: Settings → Apple ID → iCloud → Private Relay

Screen Time

If you have Screen Time restrictions enabled, make sure Emerge hasn't accidentally been blocked.

7. Update everything

Running older software can sometimes cause unexpected issues.

  • Update Emerge from the App Store.

  • Install any available iOS updates.

  • Restart your device.

  • If you're still having trouble, delete and reinstall Emerge from the App Store.
