NFL Pick'em (Private Contests): Commissioner Setup — Confidence, Spreads & Totals

Confidence Format Settings

Notes

Missed Pick Penalty (Confidence)

Which confidence ranks are burned first when an entrant misses picks.

Low to High

Low to High (lowest rank lost first); High to Low (highest rank lost first)

Requires Format = Confidence. Locks during active weekly grading; reopens after the week concludes.

Weekly Confidence Values

The range of confidence numbers available each week.

Matches that week's game count (e.g., a 16-game NFL week uses 16→1; fewer NFL games keeps 16 as the top and raises the floor; college weeks default to that week's game count)

Any numeric range the commissioner sets; specific values can be reused as many times as desired

Requires Format = Confidence. Editable any time during the week.

Summary: Confidence-specific settings only apply when Format = Confidence. Commissioners choose which end of the ranking gets sacrificed on a missed pick, and can customize the numeric range used each week instead of relying on the game-count default.

Notes

Point Spread Mode

Straight Up vs. ATS, and who sets the spread.

Straight Up

Straight Up; Against the Spread (Splash-set); Against the Spread (Commissioner-set)

Editable any time; changing it mid-season re-grades completed weeks and emails users.

Display Spreads on Picksheet

Shows spread info for context even in Straight Up contests.

Off

Off; On

Only relevant when Point Spread Mode = Straight Up. Informational only — doesn't affect scoring.

Hooked Spreads

Adds a half-point to prevent pushes.

On

Off; On

Only applies to Against the Spread (Splash-set). Editable any time during the week; mid-season edits affect completed-week scoring and trigger user emails.

Picks Available (advance picks)

Whether ATS entrants can pick before spreads are posted.

Allow picks in advance

Allow picks in advance; Do not allow picks until spreads are in

Only relevant when ATS is enabled.

Spread Lock Time

When live spreads freeze for the week.

Tuesday 12:00 PM ET

Any day Monday–Sunday, paired with any time of day

Only relevant for Against the Spread (Splash-set). Totals lock on the same schedule as spreads in Splash-set ATS contests, and by default on Tuesdays at 12pm ET in Straight Up contests. Editable any time during the week. If set past the pick deadline, spreads lock at the pick deadline instead. If set after a game starts, that game's spread locks at kickoff.

Pushes

How an exact-spread tie is scored.

Push (0.5 pts, tallied separately)

Win; Loss; Push (0.5 pts, tallied separately)

Only relevant when ATS is enabled AND Hooked Spreads is off. Editable until that week's pick deadline passes; past weeks can't be changed.

Commissioner Set Spreads

Manual per-game spread editor.

Picksheet column pre-filled with current live spreads

Current (live, read-only); Picksheet (commissioner-editable value that actually applies to the contest)

Only relevant when Point Spread Mode = Commissioner-set. Editable per game until it starts — and even after a game ends (triggers a re-grade and user emails).

Commissioner Set Over/Unders

Manual per-game totals editor.

Picksheet column pre-filled with current live totals

Current (live, read-only); Picksheet (commissioner-editable value that actually applies to the contest)

Editable per game until it starts — and even after a game ends (triggers a re-grade and user emails). Only available if the picksheet has totals on and the commissioner is setting the spreads.

Summary: Point Spread Mode is the master switch — everything else in this table only matters once ATS (Splash-set or Commissioner-set) is turned on. The one exception is Display Spreads, which is a Straight Up–only informational toggle.

Almost every spread/total edit here can be made after a game has already ended, and each of those retroactive edits triggers a re-grade and an email to affected users — good to warn commissioners about before they make late edits.
