Summary
In this guide we will give an overview on how to open a new Matter with Eve. This is the process for starting a new case, a central place for you and your team to work on all parts of a given client’s casework.
What are Matters?
A “Matter” is a single case in Eve. Matters are where you and your team can work with Eve on all key work related to that client’s case. Typically a matter encompasses an individual client’s case, with individual “sessions” for discrete tasks during the case (e.g., a session for the case overview, a session for the demand letter, etc).
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Open a new matter
To open a new matter in Eve, you will click on the “New Matter” button in the left side panel. This will open a new Matter for you where you can house all of the individual sessions where you're going to take on individual tasks with Eve.
When you open a new Matter, you’ll automatically open the first Session.
Step 2: Name your Matter (and Session)
By default, a new Matter in Eve will be called “New Matter”. You can rename your matter by selecting thebutton next to the name of the matter. Similarly, you can rename any Session using the same button.
💡 Pro Tip: We recommend using descriptive names for your Matters and Sessions so that you can find your work easily if you need to come back to it after a break, or if you will be sharing it with team members that you are collaborating with.
Step 3: Opening new Sessions in your Matter
As you take on more steps in your case work you’ll open new Sessions to take on those key case tasks.
💡 Pro Tip: We strongly recommend opening a new Session for each discrete task you take on with Eve, so that Eve can be hyper-focused on the task at hand. If you work on multiple tasks in one Session with Eve, you might get a lower quality of answer as Eve tries to reconcile earlier work with the new requests.
(Optional) Step 4: Share access to your Matter
If you are collaborating with team members on your Matter, you can share access to them. To share access, press the “Share” button in the top right corner. Enter your team member’s email to share. Alternatively you can set the default status of a Matter to “Everyone in the firm” which will let everyone in your organization that is using Eve access the Matter.
By following these steps you should be able to open, rename and share a new Matter in Eve.
