Summary
In this guide we will give an overview on how to share a Matter in Eve with your team members (or your whole organization). We’ll guide you through the process of sharing a Matter, discuss the options for sharing, and give a brief overview of the permission sets.
By sharing access to a Matter with your team members you can collaborate on key tasks throughout the case lifecycle. Each team member will be able to open new Sessions and perform work in Eve as well as view what others have done in their own Sessions.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Open a Matter
First, open a Matter in Eve. You can either open a new Matter by following the steps outlined here, or you can open a Matter that already exists in your Matter Home.
Step 2: Initiate Sharing
Next, simply click on the “Share” button in the upper right of your screen. The option to share is available both in the Matter overview page and inside an individual Session.

(Matter View)
A pop-up will appear in which you’ll be able to determine who you want to share the Matter with.
Step 3: Invite Users
You can now enter an email address of a team member and click “Invite” when you’re ready.
Members in your organization with access to Eve will show up in the drop down, but you can also invite users that do not have access to Eve yet. They will receive an invitation to join your matter, and to sign up for Eve.
You can also toggle the global settings for this Matter: the default is for other users in your organization to only see the Matter if invited, or for all users to be able to access the Matter (without an explicit invitation).
💡 Eve Tip: If you’d like all of your Matters to be shared with your broader organization, please reach out to your support team.
Note that you cannot share an individual Session, you will share access to the whole matter.
Once you’ve shared a Matter, you will be able to see that others have access by seeing a locked or unlocked icon near your user icon and the number of other users invited to the matter.
Step 4: Manage Permissions
For the users that you invite to collaborate on your Matter, you can set their permissions, or remove them from the Matter. Toggle the drop-down to the right of the User you want to adjust the permissions of. By default, an invited team member is a “User”.
“User” Permission Level allows the user to view existing sessions in a Matter and create new sessions and perform work in the Matter. “User” permissions do not allow for renaming or deleting the Matter (or any sessions inside of that Matter).
You’ll can set the permissions of your invited team member to be “Owner”
“Owner” Permission Level allows the user to view existing sessions in a Matter and create new sessions and perform work in the Matter. “Owner” permissions also allow for renaming or deleting the Matter as well as inviting other users and setting their permissions.
You can also remove the user from having access to the Matter at any time.
By following these steps you should be able to share a Matter with your team and start collaborating on key case tasks.
