Each externship cohort has a start date and an end date listed when you enroll. These dates define the official window of your cohort—the period when live meetings, discussions, and evaluations take place.

Even though externships are primarily asynchronous, these dates help structure your experience and ensure fairness for awards, completion recognition, and participation tracking.

Understanding Your Cohort Dates

The Dates Represent Your Live Meeting Window

The start and end dates indicate when your live meetings and synchronous sessions will occur. You’ll typically meet with your host organization and peers during this timeframe.

Enrolling Before the Start Date

If you enroll before the listed start date, you’re welcome to begin your externship immediately. You can start exploring the modules, reviewing orientation materials, and preparing for your project work ahead of the official launch.

Enrolling After the End Date

If you enroll after the listed end date, your externship end date will not be extended. You can still access all materials, but your completion status and eligibility for awards will follow the official cohort timeline.

Completing for the Top Achiever Award

To qualify for the Top Achiever Award, you must complete all required deliverables by the cohort’s end date. This ensures that your work is reviewed alongside your peers and considered for top recognition.

Grace Period for the Completer Award

If you miss the official end date, you can still earn the Completer Award within a three-week grace period following your cohort’s end date. Work submitted after this grace period will not qualify for official award consideration.

Continued Access After Your Cohort Ends

As long as your student portal subscription remains active, you’ll have indefinite access to your externship modules—even beyond the listed end date. You can revisit content, refine your work, or use materials for ongoing professional development.
