If your Slack invite link isn’t working, don’t worry—this usually happens because the link has expired, already been used, or is tied to a different email than the one registered for your externship. This article walks through the common reasons and how to fix them quickly.
Common Reasons Your Slack Link May Not Work
Link Expired
Slack invite links automatically expire after a set period or number of uses.
If you see an error like “This invite link is no longer active”, you’ll need a new one.
Already Joined or Logged In With a Different Account
If you previously joined the workspace with another email, you may see an error when trying to use a new link.
Double-check that you’re signed into the correct Slack account associated with your Extern email or the email used to register for your externship.
Invite Link Misused or Invalid
Occasionally, links can be broken by formatting errors or copied incorrectly from an email or dashboard.
Try clicking the original link directly rather than pasting it into your browser.
How to Fix the Issue
Step 1: Try Opening the Link in an Incognito Window
Open your browser’s incognito/private mode and paste the Slack invite link again.
This helps if you’re accidentally logged into the wrong Slack workspace.
Step 2: Check for an Existing Account
Go to https://slack.com/signin.
Search for the Extern workspace and see if you can already sign in.
Step 3: Request a New Invite Link
If the link is expired or still not working:
Contact your Program Manager or email support@extern.com.
Include:
Your full name
The externship program name
The email you used to register
A brief note that your Slack invite link isn’t working
Extern’s support team will send you a new Slack invitation within one business day.
Helpful Tips
Always use the same email address for your Extern account, Slack, and program communications to avoid conflicts.
Bookmark the workspace URL once you’ve joined.
If you’re switching devices or browsers, sign out of other Slack workspaces before joining.
