Seeing an error screen in the student portal?

Quick checks to try when an error screen keeps appearing while you set up your profile or browse projects, and what to send us if it doesn't go away.

If an error screen keeps popping up while you set up your profile or explore projects, try these checks first. If none of them help, send us the details below and we'll take it from there.

1. Make sure you're on the right portal

Extern has two student portals, and your program type decides which one you use:

  • Subscription-based programs: app.extern.com

  • Community college or partner-hosted programs (for example The Home Depot or National Geographic Society): platform.extern.com

2. Sign in the same way you signed up

If you created your account with Sign in with Google, use Google again. You won't need a password. If you signed up with an email address, sign in with that email and your password. See How do I reset my password?

3. Update your profile from My Account

Once you're logged in, open the menu in the upper right corner and select My Account to update your details. See Can I update my profile?

Still seeing the error?

Reply to your support email or write to support@extern.com with:

  • A screenshot of the error

  • The web address (URL) of the page where it appears

  • How you sign in (Google or email and password)

  • Your program name, if you're enrolled in one

A teammate will look into it and follow up with you.
