What are Memberships?

What are Memberships, why do they matter and what can you do with them?

Updated over a week ago

A membership on Fanbase is a recurring subscription product that gives fans a way to stay connected to your club year-round — and gives you reliable, predictable income that isn't tied to fixtures, weather, or results.

Fans sign up and are billed automatically on renewal. You set the price, the benefits, and the billing frequency.

When your Fan becomes a Member, they will then have a digital membership card in their Fanbase wallet.

Why does it matter?

Memberships give you recurring revenue that sits outside your ticketing calendar — income you can forecast and plan around, even during quiet periods or when fixtures are disrupted.

They also deepen fan relationships. Members aren't just buying a ticket; they're investing in the club. Over time, that engagement translates into stronger loyalty, higher spend, and richer data about the fans who matter most to you.

Why does it matter to your Fans?

Fans join memberships because of the value they get — both tangible and emotional:

  • Belonging & Identity: feeling part of something, emotional and social connection

  • Contributing to the club: a sense of financial ownership and influence

  • Season ticket alternative: flexible and affordable way to stay connected

  • Save money: discounts on tickets, facilities, F&B, and partner companies

  • Be in-the-know: exclusive access, insider status, and priority

What benefits can you offer?

Fanbase supports two types of membership benefits:

Automated discounts

These are applied automatically when a member buys through Fanbase — no admin required from you or your staff. You can offer:

  • Percentage discounts on match tickets, season tickets, or events (e.g. 10% off)

  • Fixed discounts on match tickets, season tickets, or events (e.g. £2 off)

Additional benefits

Anything else you want to offer alongside automated discounts. For example:

  • Discounts at your bar, club shop, or sponsor businesses

  • Priority or early access to tickets or events

  • Exclusive content — behind-the-scenes access, video, newsletters, WhatsApp groups, prize draw entries

  • Experiences and events that are exclusive and Member-only

  • Voting rights to help shape your club

  • Merch, memorabilia or membership cards

What should you offer? (A note on manageability)

There's no single right answer — it depends on what works for your club. If you want a membership that runs with minimal ongoing effort, automated ticket discounts are an excellent starting point. They're applied without any action from you or your staff, and they deliver clear, tangible value to fans.

If you're ready to offer a fuller package — bar discounts, exclusive content, member events — these can make for a more compelling product.

Just make sure whatever you promise is something your team can consistently deliver. A simple membership you can sustain beats an ambitious one you can't.

💡 Quick tip: Start simple. You can always add benefits over time as you get comfortable with how the product works.
