In Shopify, you can set two prices for each product: the pre-discount price (which is higher) and the post-discount price. The latter is considered the final price. On the other hand, the compare-at-price is a higher value that you establish for the product.
β
The compare-at-price will be visually crossed out, while the final price, reflecting the discount, will be prominently displayed. This presentation strategy emphasizes the perceived value for your customers.
βCompare-at Price (Pre-Discount Price):
Definition: This is the original price of the product before any discounts are applied. It's typically higher than the final selling price.
β
Final Price (Post-Discount Price):
Definition: This is the actual price customers pay for the product after discounts.
β
If you have compare-at-price for your product, it will be shown as a discounted item. (The compare-at-price will be crossed out)
Bundle discount calculations can be based on either the final price or the compare-at-price, offering shop owners flexibility. You can set your preferences via Fast Bundle admin > Settings > Bundle settings > Product pricing.
Scenario Example
Let's consider a product (Product A) with the following pricing:
Compare-at Price: $100
Final Price: $80
You offer a bundle that includes Product A with a 10% discount. Here's how the pricing works based on your bundle discount settings.
β
A. Product Pricing Set to Final Price
Bundle Discount Applied To: Final Price
Calculations:
Compare-at Price: Remains at $100 (crossed out on the product page)
Final Price: $80 - (10% of $80) = $72
Customer Payment:
In Bundle: Pays $72 for Product A.
Separately: Pays $80 if purchased individually.
B. Product Pricing Set to Compare-at Price
Bundle Discount Applied To: Compare-at-Price
Calculations:
Compare-at Price: $100 - (10% of $100) = $90 (crossed out on the bundle widget)
Final Price: Remains at $80
Important Note:
If the discounted compare-at price ($90) is still higher than the final price ($80), Shopify automatically uses the lower final price at checkout.
Result: The bundle discount isn't reflected in the cart or checkout.
Customer Payment:
In Bundle: Pays $80 for Product A (no visible discount).
Separately: Pays $80 if purchased individually.
To ensure the discount is visible when applying it to the compare-at price, the discounted compare-at price must be lower than the final price.
βExample with a 25% Discount:
Bundle Discount Applied To: Compare-at Price
Calculations:
Compare-at Price: $100 - (25% of $100) = $75 (crossed out on the cart/checkout pages)
Final Price: Remains at $80
Customer Payment:
In Bundle: Pays $75 for Product A.
Separately: Pays $80 if purchased individually.
