Summary

Move a location from one account to another. If the location is a Main Location make another location the Main Location.

Key Points

  • What if I don't see a Move button?

  • What if a location has only one (main) location?

  • How do I move a location to a new account and have that as the only location?

IMPORTANT Due to the differences in how Fieldwork and QuickBooks Online handle customer data the Move button is not available to those of you using QuickBooks Online. If you were to move a location your QBO syncs would stop at locations that have Invoices or Payments. The only solution would be to move the location back to its original account.

In an account with multiple locations you'll see one location with a View button and the others with a View button and a down arrow. The location with just the View button is your Main Location.

In the example above the location name 1024 Peterson Ave Park Ridge is the Main Location. To set another location as the Main Location, click the down arrow next to the View button for the location you want to have set as Main. Click Set Main

In the example below, the location name 17542 Elaine Drive Fontana, CA 92336 is now the Main Location. You can either:

  • Delete what was previously the Main Location

  • Move what was previously the Main Location to another account

Delete the previous Main Location

Be careful and plan your change. Make sure you're selecting the correct location when you click that down arrow and click Delete.

Move the previous Main Location

  1. Click the View button for the previous Main Location

  2. Click the Edit button

  3. Click the grey Move button in the upper-right corner

What if I don't see a Move button?

  1. In the customer's main page, click the Create a new... button and select Service Location

  2. Name the location Delete and Save it, you'll now have two locations

  3. To the right of the Delete location, click the down arrow and click Set Main

  4. Click the previous Main Location to go to that location page

  5. Click the Edit button near the top of the page

  6. Click the Move button

  7. Assign this location to the new account

  8. Delete the original customer, if desired

What if a location has only one (main) location?

  1. In the customer's main page, click the Create a new... button and select Service Location

  2. Name the location Delete and Save it, you'll now have two locations

  3. To the right of the Delete location, click the down arrow and click Set Main

  4. Click the previous Main Location to go to that location page

  5. Click the Edit button near the top of the page

  6. Click the Move button

  7. Assign this location to the new account

  8. Delete the original customer, if desired

How do I move a location to a new account and have that as the only location?

  1. If necessary, change the moving location from main as described above

  2. Create the new account

  3. Move the location to the new account

  4. Set the moved location as Main

  5. Delete the previous Main location
