Summary

If you have John Smith as a customer and a you're adding a new customer, also named John Smith, you'll receive the following error message:

This new customer appears to be a duplicate. Would you like to update the existing account

When adding a new customer an account number is the last thing created for the new customer. Since the new customer doesn't yet have an account number, you get the error message.

Key Points

  • Work around this message by adding an extra character to the name

  • Once the customer is saved remove the extra character

To work around this issue, add any character or number to the new customer's last name:

 For example:
John Smith2
or John Smith*

After the system accepts the new customer, it associates the name to an account number, it doesn't give you a duplicate error. Return to the customer and remove the extra character.
