What this article covers
The Audit log in Setup → Audit log: which changes Finstack records, what a log record contains, who can see the log, and how to export it. The audit log supports journal entry testing (which manual entries exist, who made them and when), review of elimination and exchange rate changes, and the data lineage of uploaded trial balances.
Where do I find the audit log?
Go to Setup → Audit log, at the bottom of the Setup section below Admin. The menu item is visible to the Owner and Accountant roles; other roles don't see it. The page is read-only for everyone.
The log is a flat table, newest first. Filter on date range, entities, users, object type and channel; the filters combine. For Accountant users, visibility follows their entity access (see Team).
The header shows Recorded from {date}: the audit log records changes from its release onwards. There is no history from before that date.
What is recorded?
Finstack records the changes that explain most differences in your figures:
Mapping: a GLA remapped to another line (old → new). Bulk mapping actions are logged as one record with the list of accounts, which you can expand.
Elimination configuration per GLA: elimination method, counter entity and elimination start date (old → new).
Entries: Manual entries, Manual IC entries and Adjustment entries: created, updated (amounts, accounts, period, description, old → new) and deleted.
Exchange rates (custom): the rate per currency and period (old → new).
Entities: added, changed and deleted, including the source (ERP) the entity is connected to, and changes to display name and currency (old → new).
File uploads: transaction and trial balance uploads (Excel, CSV): file name, entity, covered period(s) and row count. Replacing or deleting an uploaded file is logged the same way.
Changes made in the platform are logged with channel Finstack. Changes written back through the spreadsheet integration (Excel Add-in, Google Sheets) are logged with channel Spreadsheet, including the user who made them.
What is not recorded?
Individual transactions syncing from your ERP. Your ERP keeps its own trail; Finstack logs at its own boundary. Uploaded files are logged at file level, not per row.

What does a log record contain?
Every record has the same eight fields:
Timestamp: shown in your own timezone.
Actor: the user, or a named system actor for automated changes.
Channel: Finstack or Spreadsheet.
Action: created, updated or deleted.
Object: type and label, for example Manual IC entry "MAN-000482", Mapping "4413 · X2 BV" or Entity "X7 BV".
Context: entity and affected period(s), where applicable.
Change: old → new per changed field. A create logs the new values only, a delete the old values only.
Note: the description or justification supplied with the action, where it exists.
Deleted entries and deleted files stay fully readable in the log, including their old values and note.
Can log records be edited or deleted?
No. The audit log is append-only: no role, including Owner, can edit or delete records. Records are retained for at least 7 years, in line with Dutch record-keeping obligations. Writing the log record is part of the change itself, so a recorded type of change cannot happen without a log record.
How do I export the audit log?
Click Export at the top of the page. The Excel export reproduces the filtered view on screen.
