Emergency Reschedule Protocol

Updated over a year ago

RDs are expected to honor all scheduled appointments. Rescheduling scheduled appointments should be strictly limited to true emergencies. A true emergency is defined as:

  • Sickness or injury that impacts ability to complete appointment

  • Unanticipated travel delays

  • Family emergencies

For any scheduling issues that need to be canceled for true emergencies:

Cancel the visit first so your patient is aware - not showing up is much worse than canceling

  • Visits occurring within 0-24 hours that need to be rescheduled due to an RD emergency that the RD can't handle; only to be used in case of true emergency and inability to access FFD

  • Use Foodsmart for Dietitians rescheduling to find another RD for this visit.

  • If you are unable to find another RD to reschedule this visit please call the member. If the member is not reached, leave a voicemail apologizing for the inconvenience and ask the patient to call 415-800-2311 to reschedule.

For any scheduling issues that need to be canceled > 24 hours in advance:

  • Visits occurring more than 24 hours out that need to be rescheduled due to "wrong fit" (e.g. pediatric patient, language needs, wrong state license)

    • These are your responsibility to catch and reschedule.
