Receive your daily summary twice per day
You can now choose between One Daily and Twice Daily summary emails. For each option you can choose the delivery times of your emails.
We added this option for two reasons:
On average, Forage handles 90% of email for our customers. We found that many people were not comfortable with waiting until the next day to see all those messages. Now you can receive one summary in the morning and one at the end of your workday (or set them to deliver at any other time).
Some people receive too many emails each day and it's just too many to review only once per day. Breaking them up into two emails helps keep it manageable.
Move emails to trash
By default, Forage archives emails rather than deleting them. However, some people prefer to keep their email account (and search results) clean by deleting emails completely.
Now you can use "Move to trash" in a few ways:
Move a specific email to trash. You can do this by clicking the menu icon next to the email in the daily summary email or in the Forage app.
Set certain auto labels to go directly to trash (e.g. auto delete all emails labeled "Promotions").
Create a custom rule to send a specific sender directly to trash.
(Even more) Reliable unsubscribe
We've all experienced senders who do not respect our request to unsubscribe from their emails. Now Forage can help you banish any sender from your inbox for good.
Any time you unsubscribe from a sender, Forage will automatically create a custom rule that puts future emails they send you directly in the trash so they don't show up in your inbox or your labels/folders in Gmail either.
We also added these custom rules for all senders you've already unsubscribed from before this release so you'll start seeing the benefits right away.
We revamped our website!
The new website introduces our new brand aesthetic and better reflects the latest improvements we've made to the product.
Improvements to Deep Clean
Thank you for helping us spot where Deep Clean was confusing; we’ve made some improvements to smooth it out!
We renamed “Skip” to “Don’t archive” to better reflect the action being taken. This makes it clearer that those emails will stay in your inbox.
We added a new step to the Deep Clean flow that lets you review personal messages. Forage doesn’t handle these by default, but you can opt in to review and clear them during Deep Clean. This helps you get all the way to Inbox Zero.
We simplified the progress bar to show the number of pages remaining instead of a percentage, which gives a clearer sense of progress.
We also renamed “Emails cleaned” to “Emails archived” to more accurately describe the action being taken.
Other Improvements
We renamed a few features to make them more clear:
"Mute" was renamed to "Auto archive"
"Auto Archive" was renamed to "Delayed archive"

Introducing Deep Clean – Marie Kondo for your cluttered inbox
Over time, our inboxes can become overwhelmed by unread emails, leaving us unsure how to clean things up or what’s actually important.
That’s why we built Deep Clean––to make it easy to clear out old emails fast, without the stress or decision fatigue. With Deep Clean, Forage will help you get your inbox to zero no matter how many emails you have—and ensure that you don’t miss anything important along the way.
Clean Your Inbox Today, Prevent Unwanted Senders Tomorrow
Forage starts your Deep Clean by showing you the senders who have sent you emails over the last week. It groups similar senders together and displays them in groups of five, this way you can take action on multiple senders at once.
With one click, you can archive all emails from each group of senders, and you can choose to unsubscribe from all of them at the same time. If there are any senders you'd like to keep in your inbox you can skip those senders, and archive the rest. This way you can review individual emails from specific senders who may need a closer look.
Deep Clean is designed to be both fast & easy
Cleaning out large backlogs of email is hard because we are forced to make hundreds (or even thousands) of decisions.
The goal of Deep Clean is to get you to Inbox Zero, no matter how many emails you have. However, the real challenge was making sure that you don't miss anything important, while also not getting you bogged down in too many details about individual emails—leading to exhausting decision fatigue.
Triage Senders, Not Emails
When processing large amounts of email, it's easiest to get rid of emails that are obviously not important. The best proxy for the level of importance is who the email is from. That's why we group the emails in your inbox by their sender. Triaging senders is easier than triaging individual emails.
This also doubles as a way to reduce decision fatigue. If all emails are grouped by sender, this lowers the number of decisions from the total number of emails to the total number of senders.
This reduced the number of decisions by about 90% on the inboxes we tested.
Stop Anytime + Archive the Rest
In talking to many of you, we've been surprised by how many different attitudes people have towards their email inbox. Some people are more hands-off—they're happy to have us just archive everything so they can start fresh, while others want to comb through it all and ensure they don't miss anything.
Deep Clean will fetch senders in batches based on how recently they've sent you an email. This allows you to triage as many batches as you want, and then archive the rest of the emails in your inbox after that. Some people only triage one week before archiving everything, while others want to see everything in their inbox.
This design meets you where you are, and allows you to be as hands-on or hands-off as you like.
Intelligent Grouping
Another way to reduce decision fatigue is by grouping similar senders together. This way, you can make a decision on the group as a whole. Deep Clean does this in a few ways:
Group recent senders together: Forage will show you batches of senders grouped by time. This allows you to triage more recent senders first, without getting bogged down by newsletters and promotions from 6-months or a year ago.
Order senders by their frequency: Forage will show you high-frequency senders first, so that you can have the biggest impact on your inbox in the least time.
Group senders by type of email: Forage will group similar senders together so that you can triage senders who send you similar types of emails. For example, grouping senders who send you a lot of marketing emails so that you can make a similar decision across all of them.
Get Started with Deep Clean
As always, you don't have to change your email app to use Deep Clean. You can continue to enjoy your favorite email experience in Gmail, or any third-party mail app.
You can get started with Deep Clean by logging into your Forage account!

Removed the option to get a weekly email summary because it didn't prove to be useful and created some undesirable edge cases. We sometimes choose to remove features that aren't being used to keep the product simple for everyone.
Fixed a bug where switching between accounts would not successfully switch.
Fixed a bug where switching to an account to view an email owned by a secondary email address would not show the content of the email.

Connect Your Gmail Accounts to Forage
Over time, many of us have found ourselves juggling multiple email accounts—and managing several inboxes can be a real challenge. That’s why we’re excited to introduce Multiple Account Support for Forage.
This update lets you connect all your Gmail accounts to one Forage account, syncing your preferences and custom rules across every inbox.
Here's how it works:
Log in: Access your existing Forage account and head over to Account.
Add an Account: Click Add Account and sign in with Google to grant access. Repeat with each account you want to connect.
Get Started: Once connected, Forage will summarize your last 24 hours of emails based on your preferences and send your first daily summary—just like when you connected your first account.
One Daily Summary Per Inbox
You will receive a personalized daily summary for each connected inbox. Your saved preferences and rules apply uniformly across all accounts, keeping you informed without the clutter.
Nickname Your Accounts
Easily distinguish your accounts by assigning them unique nicknames. This small tweak declutters the interface and makes it simple to identify each inbox at a glance. It's the little things ✨
Filter Your Home Screen by Account
Your Home screen displays emails auto labeled by Forage over the past 24 hours, with new filtering options to view emails from specific accounts.
By default, all connected accounts are shown, but you can narrow your view with the filter menu for better organization.
Need to Merge Accounts?
If you’ve been using separate Forage accounts for each email address and would like to consolidate them into one, simply reply to this email or drop us a message in our in-app support chat.

This week, we made it easier to move emails back to your inbox, added more flexible paid plans, and we're sharing sneak peeks at upcoming features!
Move any email back to your inbox
See something in your Forage daily summary email that you want to move back to your inbox?
Now you can click the Modify icon next to any email and use 'Move to inbox' to put it back in one click. Forage will offer to make a Custom Rule in case you always want all future emails from that sender to stay in your inbox as well.
More convenient buttons in the email view
Previously, these actions were hard to find because they were buried in a menu. These new buttons make common actions easier to discover and access.
More flexible paid plans
We’ve added 3-month and 6-month subscription options, alongside the existing monthly and yearly plans.
We've also updated the Account screen with more details about paid plans, so you know exactly what you get before you subscribe.

Made it easier to create custom rules right from your daily summary
We made it easier to adjust how Forage handles your emails. Newsletters in your daily summary now have a "Modify" button. You can use this to tell Forage how you want emails from this sender handled in the future. You can also use this to provide feedback on the quality of the summary, Mute sender, and unsubscribe altogether.
If you choose to change the label we gave an email, Forage will offer to create a rule to handle all future emails from that sender the same way.
Other improvements
On the Home screen, empty sections are now collapsed by default, making more room for sections that have emails to be shown on screen at once.
Improved onboarding by displaying live email counts and filling the home screen with emails as the account syncs instead of waiting for everything to finish processing.
Improved accuracy of categorization and filtering to account for more types of email.
Many small fixes and improvements to raise the overall quality of the product.

Your inbox, your rules
We believe your inbox should work for you, not against you. With this update, you now have full control over how Forage's default email categories are treated in your inbox.
Whether you prefer emails delivered directly to your inbox, summarized in your daily digest, or automatically archived to keep your inbox clutter-free, you now have the power to customize the experience to fit your needs. This update gets you one step closer to having an inbox you actually enjoy.
Here's how it works:
Choose how each category is treated – In the Rules tab, click any category card to open its settings. From there, you can edit how emails in that category are treated—left in your inbox, summarized, or muted (automatically archived).
Drag & Drop for quick changes – Simply drag and drop category cards between treatments to instantly update how they're handled.
Changes to Notifications
Before this update, all emails that Forage categorized as Notifications were left in your inbox and archived after 7 days. With this update, you can choose how Notifications are treated.
You now have 3 options for how your Notifications are treated:
Do nothing. Notifications will continue to show up in your inbox, but they will not be auto-archived after 7 days.
Summarize Notifications. They will no longer clutter your inbox and you'll receive a summary of all your Notifications every morning in your daily digest.
Mute Notifications. They will be instantly archived and organized into a Notifications folder. They will not show in your inbox, and they will not be included in your daily digest.
Things to keep in mind
Forage does not process or handle personal messages. If we add features in the future to help with your personal correspondence, those features will be opt-in. Personal messages are identified using basic information like sender name, subject line, and unsubscribe link detection to ensure privacy.
Emails you star will remain in your inbox indefinitely.
Forage does not have the ability to delete emails. Any emails that Forage handles can be found in the Forage folders in your mail app or by searching your inbox.

Inbox – Forage leaves these emails in your inbox, right where you need them.
Summarize – These email are summarized in your daily digest and archived to keep them out of your inbox.

Introducing Lazy Archive
Automating email is a careful balance between surfacing important emails and keeping your inbox tidy.
As we learn more about how you all relate to your inbox, we’re adapting our approach to handling various kinds of email. One thing we’ve learned is that the category we’ve defined as “Notifications” is a bit too broad. So, we’re taking a step back and changing our approach. Instead of auto-archiving all notifications and including them in your digest, we are keeping them in your inbox for 7 days before archiving them. Any email that Forage labels “Notifications” will be automatically archived 7 days after it arrived. This should keep your inbox tidy while making sure you see any important notifications.
Next, we’ll be identifying sub-categories of notifications that can be safely archived on arrival.
Star to Keep In Your Inbox
If there are any notifications you would like to keep in your inbox beyond 7 days, simply star them and Lazy Archive will ignore them. We hope this provides a balance of control and automation.
Improved Categorization Accuracy
We made some big improvements to our categorization algorithm to more accurately identify newsletters that were previously missed by Forage.
Other Improvements
We changed the color of the Notifications label in Gmail from red to blue because the red label stressed us out.

Improved Categorization Accuracy
Precise email categorization is the first step to an inbox that works for you. That’s why we’ve improved our categorization algorithm to better distinguish between notifications and newsletters. If you see any mistakes with how Forage is categorizing your emails, please continue to let us know.
Refining our focus
Over the last few weeks, we’ve been speaking with as many people as possible about their relationship to content consumption and their email inbox. Thanks to conversations with all of you, we’re honing in on the most important considerations and highest impact areas we can address to help people with their email.
For example, instead of building a brand new app that everyone must install, setup, and learn how to use, we’re leaning into Forage as an “invisible email assistant” that works within your existing inbox.
One of the coolest parts of this direction is that you’ll start benefiting from every new improvement we make to Forage without changing anything about how you do your email. You’re inbox will just get better on its own. Like magic.

A New Look For Your Digest Email
The new digest is designed to look good in every email app and fit your reading preferences and default font sizes.
Here’s what’s new:
We’ve added a summary at the top of your digest that shows a list of senders in each category—Newsletters, Events, Promotions, and Notifications.
We’ve improved the email layout making it simpler and more content-focused, helping you find what you’re looking for without distractions.

Unsubscribe or mute a sender directly from the email.
Estimated read time for each email. Click it to read the full email in the app.
Mute Unwanted Senders
Sometimes you want to continue receiving emails for your records, but you don't want to see them every day. Now you can mute any sender to keep them out of your inbox, as well as your Forage Digest and our app.
New Category Specific Labels in Gmail
The most organized inboxes we see use labels to organize their emails. The issue is, you must maintain the rules on these labels to handle new senders that enter your inbox. In addition, the rules you can create are pretty basic.
Forage uses AI to categorize each email based on it's content and context. That means that when your favorite blogger sends you an email promoting their new course, that specific email will be added to Promotions even though the rest of the emails from that sender are actually Newsletters.
Unlike stagnant Gmail label rules, Forage can adapt on-the-fly to handle new senders and will continuously learn how you like things organized.
We're starting with the four major categories of email:
Events
Promotions
Newsletters
Notifications
If you recategorize an email through Forage, the label will automatically change in Gmail as well.
Unsubscribe Notifications
Unsubscribe + Archive is quickly becoming a favorite feature among Forage users. We've revamped this action to better display what's happening. You can also now continue scrolling and using the app while the unsubscribe magic is underway.
Week of November 11, 2024
More Intelligent Sorting
Email was invented for correspondence, but 30 years later our inboxes are mostly full of promotions, newsletters, articles, and notifications. Email apps, like Gmail, treat all email the same way—but we see an opportunity for a more intelligent approach.
The first step on this journey is to accurately categorize different types of email based on their content. So we're now sorting your email into Newsletters, Promotions, Events, and Notifications. This allows us to create a high-quality feed of your favorite newsletters, blogs, and other long-form content. Free of distractions and ads.
And you can now check dedicated feeds for each of the other categories. This sets the stage for even more exciting updates.
New Ways to Improve Your Feed
As Forage gets more intelligent, it will start to make decisions about sorting and summarization. You can use the new feedback menu on every post to help train Forage to better serve you.
Wrong Category – Tell Forage when an email was incorrectly sorted. This will move the email to the correct category, and let us know so that we can better handle it in the future.
Bad Summary – This will let us know that you’re unhappy with the summary that Forage provided for a given email.
Other Feedback – Use this to let us know any thoughts you have about how Forage handled the email.
We also moved the Unsubscribe button into this menu. This way we can keep the primary interface as simple & clutter-free as possible.
Other Improvements
We added a Feedback button so you can easily let us know any thoughts you have as you’re using Forage.
We improved load times throughout the app.

Other Improvements
In the app, you can now click anywhere on an entry to view the full email. Previously only the sender name was clickable.
Fixes
Fixed a bug that caused the layouts of some emails to be too wide for mobile devices.

Your Promotions
We’ve de-cluttered your Forage feed by recognizing promotional emails and listing them together, so that you only receive one entry of promotional content each day. Our goal is to keep your feed focused on the long-form content you subscribe to.
