Controlling an EarthRover via WiFi

Updated this week

If your EarthRover is already activated, you can use WiFi instead of a SIM to connect and drive it. The bot will remember the WiFi connection if you set it up during activation. Follow these steps to reconnect your bot to WiFi and start driving:

Step 1: Connect the EarthRover to WiFi

1. Prepare the Bot

  • Remove the SIM card from your EarthRover.

⚠️ Skipping this step may cause an unstable or failed WiFi setup. Always remove the SIM before continuing.

  • Power on the bot by holding the power button for about 5–8 seconds.

2. Connect to FrodoBots' WiFi

  • On your phone, go to WiFi settings.

  • Look for a network named frodobots_XX and connect to it using the password: 12345678

3: Access the Configuration Page

4: Enter Your Home WiFi Details

Important Notes:

EarthRover Zero supports only 2.4GHz WiFi (not 5GHz).

Mini and Mini+ support both 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi.

  • In the SSID field, enter your home's WiFi network name.

  • In the Password field, enter your home's WiFi password.

  • After submitting the details, wait a few moments.

5: Confirm Connection

Your bot will connect once the WiFi light turns green.

Step 2: Start Driving

  1. Log in to Your Account

  2. Navigate to Your Dashboard

    • Locate your bot on your dashboard

    • Click the Drive button under your bot’s name

  3. Prepare for Your Drive

    • Select your preferred controller

    • Configure your control keys

    • Click on the Proceed to Drive button in the upper right corner of the screen.

  4. Start Your Drive

    • On your robot’s feed screen, locate and click on the Start Your Drive button positioned at the upper left corner of your screen. This action initiates the recording of your drive.

  5. End Your Drive

    • Once you’ve completed your drive, click on the Finish & End Drive button found at the upper left corner of your screen. This step submits your drive for scoring and ends the recording.
