Age requirement and KYC explained

Updated this week

If you’re under 18, your ability to drive depends on which FrodoBots gameplay mode you choose: EarthRovers School or EarthRovers (Personal Bots).

1. EarthRovers School

In EarthRovers School, KYC is essential for accessing different types of bots:

What is KYC?

KYC (Know Your Customer) is a verification process that confirms your age by submitting a valid ID.

KYC Bots (For Players 18 and Older):

  • If you’re 18 or older, you must complete KYC to drive all bots in the game.

  • Once verified, you gain access to all available bots, which generally cost fewer Time Credits (TC) to drive.

  • Completing KYC also unlocks all bots for open-world missions.

Non-KYC Bots (For Players Under 18 or Without ID Verification):

  • You can still drive non-KYC bots if you’re under 18 or prefer not to complete KYC.

  • However, there are fewer non-KYC bots available, and they typically cost more TC to operate.

  • Non-KYC players cannot access the full range of bots in open-world missions.

A green icon indicates that the bot is ready for you to drive, while a check mark shows it is locked and requires KYC completion. Once you complete KYC, all locked bots will be unlocked and marked with a green icon.

2. EarthRovers (Owned Bots)

If you own an EarthRover, the rules are simpler. You can drive your personal bot freely, regardless of age or KYC status.

No KYC Required:

  • Driving your personal EarthRover does not require KYC.

  • Whether you’re under 18 or prefer not to share your ID, you can fully enjoy your bot without restrictions.

Sharing with Friends:

  • You can share your EarthRover with friends; they also won’t need to complete KYC, regardless of age.

  • Learn more about how to share EarthRover access with friends here.
