Using Gatheround activities

Your guide how to utilize activities during an event.

Updated over 4 months ago

Activities are the fundamental building blocks of every Gatheround. Each template in our library includes a range of different activity types. When played in order they work together to make up an engaging, structured conversation that is stronger than the sum of its parts. You can also mix and match activity types to assemble your own bespoke Gatheround experiences.

Here are some recommendations on which activities would work best based on what you're looking to achieve:

Boost Connection & Collaboration

1-on-1 Conversations

  • How does it work? Participants who click “Count Me In” will be matched in 1-on-1 breakout rooms, with conversation prompts to guide their discussion. When the allotted time for the conversation is over or the host chooses to end the round early, all participants will slowly fade out of their matching rooms and return to the main room.

  • When would I use this activity? Networking and team bonding, training roleplays, mentor/mentee sessions.

Small Group Conversations

  • How does it work? Like 1-on-1 Conversations, but with more people! Participants will be matched in small groups of 4, with conversation prompts to guide their discussion. Don’t worry – if the number of participants is not divisible by 4, a group of 3 or 5 will be created, so no one gets left out. When the allotted time for the conversation is over or the host manually ends the round, all participants will slowly fade out of their matching rooms and return to the main room.

  • When would I use this activity? Networking and team bonding, workshops, brainstorms.

Group Share

  • How does it work? Widen the conversation and give everyone equal time to respond to one prompt relevant to the whole group. When participants click “Count Me In,” they join a queue to respond to the prompt. When it’s their turn, each person will have a predetermined amount of time to respond to the prompt. Group Share is played in the main event room, so all participants see and hear one speaker at a time, along with the host. When the speaker’s turn is done, they will fade away and the next speaker’s turn will automatically start. Read more on Group Share.

  • When would I use this activity? Introductions, sharing back takeaways from a conversation, team stand-ups.

Reflection

  • How does it work? A Reflection is a structured way to give participants time on their own. Participants have one prompt and a predetermined amount of time to collect their thoughts, work on a solo activity, or prepare for an upcoming round. Adding a Reflection into a Gatheround is an easy way for hosts to allot time for activities their participants need to complete individually.

  • When would I use this activity? Stretch breaks, time to solo brainstorm, send someone a note of thanks

Photobooth

  • How does it work? Remember the fun times you had at your event by taking group photos! Participants will be matched in groups of 3 or 4 (depending on the number of participants) to snap a photo. Then you’ll all head back to the main stage to see everyone’s pictures. Download your photos with the download icon on photo strip to save your memories!

  • When would I use this activity? Holiday parties, team bonding, any time you'd like to remember the moment!

Share and Collect Information

Flash Cards

  • How does it work: Make sharing information with your team easier with Flash Cards! Hosts can share announcements, provide instructions, teach concepts, or transfer knowledge using prompt cards the whole group can read together.

  • When Would I Use This Activity: Give instructions for an activity, make team announcements, or provide a learning framework.

Presentations

  • How does it work: Seamlessly incorporate timed presentations into your agenda. During a presentation activity, hosts will be able to screen share to show any visual aids, like a slideshow or Google document, to help get your point across.

  • When Would I Use This Activity: Share a slide show, go over a document as a group, etc.

Ask a Question

  • How does it work? Invite your participants to ask questions and share feedback with our Ask a Question activity! Set a prompt and have participants submit comments, questions, or ideas live, or share the prompt ahead of time and have participants submit their responses before your event.

  • When would I use this Activity? Host a live Q&A or town hall, crowdsource ideas for a brainstorm or gather feedback in a retrospective.

Pulse Check

Polls

  • How does it work? Survey participants with a poll question. All participants will see the question and can select one answer out of two or more possible responses. The host can choose whether the poll is public or anonymous, and participants will be notified whether the poll answers are public or anonymous before answering.

  • When would I use this activity? Get the party going with a funny question, ask how everyone’s mood is coming into the week, vote on what projects to prioritize that week

Quiz

  • How does it work? Test participants’ knowledge with a quiz! A quiz is a question with one correct answer. All participants will see the question and can select one answer out of two or more possible responses. When the time on the clock runs out, the correct answer is revealed.

  • When would I use this activity? Trivia in a happy hour, learning check during a training event.
