Generating nutrition labels for recipes

Connect your ingredients to the USDA database to generate a nutrition label and allergen information.

Updated over a month ago

Nutrition is available to:

  • Plans: Premium and Premium Plus

  • Team Members: Account Owner, Editors, and Editor/Managers

Step 1: To begin, click the Nutrition tab on the right side of the recipe page.

Step 2: Add Serving Size

Be sure you are in edit mode to connect ingredients to the USDA nutrition database. Then, enter in the serving size for your recipe.

Add Nutritional Data

Next, click the pencil icon next to any ingredient that has "Add Nutritional Data" next to it.

This opens up the Nutrition modal. In the search bar, enter in the ingredient name, and choose from a list of common ingredients, or from a list of branded ingredients.

Then, scroll down and select "Update Nutrition."

Once an ingredient is linked to nutrition information from the USDA database, it will remain linked in every recipe in which it's used.

If you cannot find a suitable item to link your ingredient to, you can submit a Custom Nutrition Information Request by clicking the the link highlighted below and filling out the form:

Our team will create a custom nutritional profile based on the values you provide for the ingredient within two business days.

Please note: All ingredient calorie counts are automatically rounded according to FDA labeling guidelines.

Meez System Ingredients and Allergens

Every meez system ingredient contains allergen information. This means that using a meez system ingredient like Parmegiano Reggiano will automatically attach "Milk" as an allergen to your recipe.

When you create your own ingredient, you can manually select which allergens apply to that ingredient.

USDA Ingredient vs Display Name

You may want to change how an ingredient is displayed on your nutrition label. To do that, simply type in the preferred ingredient name in the field under "Display Name for Nutrition Label."

Labels

Once your ingredients are connected to the USDA database, and your serving size is entered, a nutrition label will appear at the bottom of the Nutrition tab.

Please Note: The nutrition and allergen analysis in your recipe is based on information set in each individual ingredient of the recipe by the creator or editor. The label generated is not FDA compliant until verified by a registered dietician. Learn more about achieving FDA compliance and working with our recommended nutrition experts here
