Website Visitor De-anonymization

Written by Camila

Most website traffic remains anonymous, representing a significant gap in intent data. Spear's native integration identifies high-intent visitors, de-anonymizes their professional profiles, and automates their entry into your sales workflow.

Core Functionality

  • De-anonymization & Visibility: The platform identifies anonymous traffic and pushes detailed professional profiles directly to your Slack channel for immediate review.

  • Intent-Based Automation: By leveraging your campaign-level ICP settings, the system filters visitors in real-time. Only those matching your specific criteria are injected into outbound campaigns.

Setup Instructions

Navigate to Settings → Integrations → Website Visitor Integration and complete the following steps:

  1. Connect Pixel: Copy the provided pixel and paste it into your website's header. Test the installation in the modal to confirm successful integration.

  2. Create Campaign: Create a new campaign and define your ICP. Only visitors who match these specific parameters will enter the sequence.

  3. Set Match Confidence: Choose a confidence threshold (default 90%) to control how certain the system must be that an identified prospect is the same person who visited your site. Only matches at or above this level will create a prospect. You can raise or lower this percentage — a higher number means fewer, more accurate matches.

  4. Connect Slack: Activate the Slack connection within the Website Visitor Integration settings to receive notifications in your designated channel.

Troubleshooting: "Campaign not configured for integration."

If you see the message "Campaign not configured for integration" in Slack, it means the tracking pixel is working correctly and identifying visitors, but the system doesn't know where to send them.

Why does this happen?

  • Missing Dedicated Campaign: The system needs a specific "destination" campaign to know which message sequence to trigger when a visitor is identified. Without a linked campaign, a prospect cannot be created in Spear.

  • ICP Not Defined: The integration uses the Ideal Customer Profile (ICP) settings of the linked campaign to filter traffic. If these aren't set, the system can't determine if the visitor is a "high-fit" lead.

  • Incomplete Integration Toggle: The Website Visitor tool requires its own specific activation within the settings, separate from the general Slack integration.

How to resolve this:

To fix this and start capturing leads automatically, go to Settings > Integrations > Website Visitor Integration and ensure the following:

  1. Link an Active Campaign: Select a campaign specifically created for website visitors.

Pro-tip: We recommend using a simple, direct message for this campaign. Since the visitor just showed intent by browsing your site, speed and simplicity are more effective than a long sequence.

  2. Set the ICP: Ensure the linked campaign has defined titles and industries so the system can filter for your target audience.

  3. Confirm Slack Connection: Verify that the Slack toggle is "Active" specifically within the Website Visitor module.

FAQ

Why am I not receiving notifications from the Website Visitor Plugin?

If you've set everything up but aren't receiving notifications yet, check the following:

  1. Campaign is not active — The most common reason. Go to your Campaigns page and make sure the campaign linked to the plugin is turned on.

  2. ICP not defined — The system only notifies you when a visitor matches your ICP. Make sure you have at least one Prospect filter and one Company filter configured.

  3. Match Confidence set too high — If the threshold is set very high, fewer visitors will qualify as a match. Try lowering it to see more prospects come through.

  4. Website Visitor Integration trigger not activated — This feature requires its own activation in Settings → Integrations → Website Visitor Integration, separate from the general Slack integration.

  5. Messaging not configured — A campaign without a sequence won't trigger notifications. Make sure at least one message is set up.

  6. Slack not connected — Make sure your Slack integration is active and pointing to the right channel within the Website Visitor Integration settings.
