How to welcome a new visitor and convert them into a first purchase on WhatsApp and RCS/SMS?

Turn your opt-ins into first purchases as soon as they land on your site.

Before you start

To set up this flow, you need to already have a pop-up on your site that collects your visitors' phone numbers.

👉 If that's not yet the case, check out the guide Collecting opt-ins via a pop-up to set it up.

Why set up this flow?

  • 👀 Redirect your customers to WhatsApp/RCS right after they've entered their phone number on your welcome pop-up.

  • 🛍️ Increase sales by re-engaging visitors who are already interested in your brand, right at the moment they sign up.

1. Add the flow from your library

  1. Go to Flow > Library.

  2. Add the Welcome Flow template, described as: "Build trust and increase conversions by engaging your opt-ins as soon as they sign up."

  3. Customize the messages to match your brand.

2. Connect the trigger

Option A : Via Klaviyo

Native integration: add a Trigger > Klaviyo Webhook block at the very start of the flow. 👉 How to trigger a WhatsApp conversation from Klaviyo

Option B : Via another CRM

Add a Trigger > Incoming Webhook block, which will receive the call sent from your CRM or pop-up tool. 👉 To learn more about how webhooks work, click here

Regardless of the trigger method (Klaviyo or external webhook), it's the "Added to List" event that gets picked up and used to trigger the flow: it confirms the contact has just been added to the WhatsApp opt-in list after completing the pop-up. This is the information that lets WAX know a new contact needs to receive the welcome message.

⚠️ Caution: make sure the "Added to List" event you're receiving corresponds precisely to your WhatsApp opt-in list, not to another list in your CRM (email newsletter, existing customers, etc.). Connecting the wrong event would send the message to contacts who never consented to being contacted on WhatsApp/RCS.

3. Create the welcome message

In the WAX flow, open the message sent right after the Trigger block, then customize it for your brand.

Depending on the data sent by Klaviyo (or your CRM) at the moment the contact is added to the list, you can insert variables to personalize the opening line, for example, the contact's first name, if that field is collected on your pop-up.

Follow through on the offer announced on the pop-up

The message needs to deliver on the promise made in the form: if your pop-up offers a discount code in exchange for the phone number, this is where it should appear (e.g., "Welcome! Enjoy 10% off your first order with this code: WELCOME10").

Expected result

As soon as a visitor completes the pop-up and WAX receives the "Added to List" event, they automatically and immediately receive the first WhatsApp welcome message, with no manual action needed on your part.
