This feature lets you create a clickable link that opens WhatsApp with a pre-filled message sent by the contact.
It's the ideal way to start a conversation and trigger a flow when the customer writes to you on their own.
This type of link is especially useful for:
customer support (website footer, help center)
opt-in collection emails (see Mail to WhatsApp)
social media (bio, posts)
events, flyers or QR codes inserted in orders
How it works
When a contact clicks the link:
WhatsApp opens automatically
A message is pre-filled
The contact sends the message
The flow is triggered instantly
👉 This ensures a smooth, frictionless experience and a clear opt-in.
Examples of WhatsApp redirect links
A WhatsApp redirect link always works the same way: a URL that opens the app with a message already written, ready to be sent by the contact. Here are a few concrete use cases:
Customer support (help center, website footer)
Customer support (help center, website footer)
Pre-filled message: "Hi, I need help with my order" → The contact clicks the link from your contact page, WhatsApp opens with this message ready to send, and the support flow starts as soon as it's sent.
Opt-in collection by email
Opt-in collection by email
Pre-filled message: "I'd like to join the VIP list (send this message)" → Placed in an email CTA, this link turns an email subscriber into an opted-in WhatsApp contact in one click.
Social media (Instagram bio, posts)
Social media (Instagram bio, posts)
Pre-filled message: "I'd like to know more about your new arrivals" → Placed in your bio or a post link, this message opens a product discovery or welcome flow.
QR code on packaging or an event flyer
QR code on packaging or an event flyer
Pre-filled message: "I'm activating my warranty" or "I want my welcome gift" → The contact scans the QR code in store or when receiving their parcel, WhatsApp opens with the message, and the activation or welcome flow starts.
Landing page or e-commerce site
Landing page or e-commerce site
Pre-filled message: "I want to track my order on WhatsApp" → Useful alongside standard email tracking, to offer conversational order tracking.
In every case, the mechanism is the same: you set up the inbound message in WAX, generate the link, and share it on the channel of your choice (email, website, social media, QR code, SMS, etc.).
1️⃣ Create the flow
Go to Automations
Create a new flow
Select WAX as the trigger source
Choose Inbound Message
2️⃣ Set up the inbound message
Enter the message the contact will send.
💡 Best practice: Add a clear hint to guide the user and reduce drop-off, for example: "I'd like to join the VIP list (send this message)"
This reassures the contact and helps them understand what to do.
⚠️ One inbound message = one flow
Each Inbound Message you set up matches a single flow. You can't link several different inbound messages to the same flow and then tell them apart inside it: the generated link is specific to the message you entered, and that message triggers only this flow.
In practice:
1 inbound message → 1 unique link → 1 dedicated flow
To offer several entry points (languages, channels, different use cases), you need to create as many flows as inbound messages, even if the content then sent to the contact is identical or very similar.
3️⃣ Generate and copy the link
Once the message is set up:
Click the clipboard icon to copy the generated link
Paste this link into your CTAs (email, website, QR code, social media, etc.)
👉 You can create several inbound messages:
in different languages
with different wording
with or without emojis
Each message generates a unique link, and therefore a separate flow (see above).
4️⃣ Add a reply to the flow
For the flow to work properly, you must add at least one reply after the trigger.
This reply can:
confirm the sign-up or opt-in (add an opt-in block after it)
present an offer
give information
direct the contact to support or the next step of the journey
5️⃣ Turn on the flow
Click Activate the flow to make the flow active.
Once it's on:
the link can be used
contacts can trigger the flow
conversations start automatically on WhatsApp
+ Track your stats by language or by channel
Since a flow can only be linked to a single inbound message, performance stats (number of triggers, opt-in rate, etc.) are always calculated at flow level, never per message variant within the same flow.
If you want to track your performance by language or by distribution channel (email, social media, QR code, website...), the only way is to:
Duplicate the flow as many times as needed
Change the Inbound Message in each copy (a different language or channel per flow)
Share each generated link on the matching channel
Example: to track a welcome flow's performance separately in French and in English, create two flows with identical content but two different inbound messages ("Je veux rejoindre la liste VIP" / "I want to join the VIP list"). You can then compare the stats of both flows independently.
