💰 Funding your account
When you’re rewarding and incentivizing people around the world, you’ll need to make sure your Giftbit account has funds available in the region you’re sending rewards. How you fund your account depends on:
The currencies you want to use
How much control you want over conversion fees and balances
How your business typically manages payments
Below are the main options, why you’d use them, and what to watch out for.
Credit Card Funding
You can use a credit card to fund in USD or CAD. It is fast and straightforward, but limited to those two currencies and comes with a 3.5% credit card processing fee.
Funding By Wire
If you work with multiple regions, a wire transfer gives you more options. You can fund balances in USD, CAD, GBP, EUR, MXN, or AUD directly. This approach is handy if:
You already hold money in those currencies
Want to avoid the 2% conversion fee applied with the Default Currency option.
Prefer to keep budgets separate by region.
The trade-off is that you’ll need to watch your balances: if one currency runs out, rewards in that currency can’t be sent until you top it up.
Using Default Currency
For all other regions, you’ll need to rely on a Default Currency (USD or CAD). Think of it as your global backup: rewards are sent in the recipient’s local currency, while your Default Currency balance is automatically converted at the time of sending.
It’s flexible because you don’t have to maintain separate balances for every currency. Conversions come with a 2% fee, and your Default Currency balance still needs to be funded first, either by credit card or wire transfer.
📤 Sending Global Rewards
Once your funding is set, the next step is to set up templates for each region.
Templates make sending smoother, but since rewards are region-specific, a little extra setup ensures everything goes to the right place.
Quick Tips
Each region requires its own template
Even if multiple countries share the same currency (like France and Germany with the Euro), you’ll need a separate template for each one. This is because rewards are typically restricted to use within a specific country. Creating region-specific templates helps avoid issues where a recipient may not be able to redeem a reward due to local restrictions.
Value needs to be set in the local currency
Rewards must be configured in the currency of the recipient’s country. For example, if you want to send someone in Germany a $50 USD reward, you’ll need to adjust the value to the local equivalent—about €43 at the time of writing. This ensures that the recipient gets the right value in a format they can use without worrying about conversion at redemption.
Check available rewards at different values
When setting reward values, visit giftbit.com/rewards to see the catalog for each region. Some values unlock a wider variety of options. For instance, in the Germany example, you might find more reward partners at €40 or €50 than at €43. Adjusting slightly up or down can give your recipients better flexibility and choice.
Segment contact lists by country
For larger campaigns, group your contacts by their country before uploading. This saves time and reduces errors, since each group can be matched with the correct template and currency. It also ensures recipients have a smooth experience—getting rewards they can actually use locally.
