Manage Apps

Create, configure, and share the custom apps hosted in your workspace.

Written by Holly Conrad Smith

Manage Apps is available on Enterprise workspaces with app hosting turned on. Reach out to your account manager if you don't see it.

Extend Giraffe with your own tools.

Apps let your team build custom functionality on top of Giraffe using the SDK, then host and share it right alongside your projects. Manage Apps is where those apps live.

Don't have Manage Apps, or want to test an app before you host it? Add the IFrame app to a panel in your project and point it at your app's URL. The app loads in that panel without being hosted in your workspace.

Open Manage Apps

Manage Apps is the Apps page on Home. The Apps item only shows in the sidebar on Enterprise workspaces with app hosting turned on.

  1. Choose Home from the workspace menu at the far left of the top bar. You can also click the house icon in the top bar's breadcrumb trail.

  2. Click Apps in the left sidebar.

The My Apps page opens. It lists every app you have admin access to.

Create an app

  1. On the My Apps page, click New App. If you don't have any apps yet, click Create your first app.

  2. In the Create App dialog, type a Name for the app.

  3. Paste the URL where your app is published, like https://example.com/app.

  4. Paste a Logo URL for an image to use as the app's logo.

  5. Optionally, set the Default Configuration. This JSON is saved to every project the app is added to. Use the Public tab for settings other apps in the project can read. Use the Private tab for settings only your app can read, like API keys.

  6. Click Create App.

Name, URL, and Logo URL are all required, and both URLs must be full web addresses. The new app appears in the My Apps list.

New to building apps? Start with Get Set Up with the SDK, then reference The Giraffe Javascript SDK for the full API.

Create an app from a project

Create an app without leaving your project. Giraffe adds the new app to the project you have open.

  1. Open the Content Library and click the Project tab.

  2. Click New and choose App. If Apps is selected in the Content Type list, click New App instead.

  3. Type a Name, paste the URL where your app is published, and paste a Logo URL. All three are required.

  4. Click Create App.

You need edit access to the project to see the App option.

Edit an app

On the My Apps page, click Edit next to an app. Change its details in the Edit App dialog, then click Save Changes.

Share or delete an app

On the My Apps page, click Edit next to an app.

  • To share the app, use App sharing at the bottom of the Edit App dialog. Share it with a user or with a workspace.

  • To delete the app, click Delete App and confirm.

Only users with admin access to a specific app can share or delete it.
