Before you're drawing individual buildings, you're often testing zoning envelopes and planning-level yield across a whole site. The Land Use tool shortcuts to all of the Land Use Usages in your project template. In the drawing toolbar, this button's icon looks like a truncated pyramid.
If your project template doesn't have the usage you need, check the Marketplace: open the Content Library (from the main menu, or the + on any panel tab), click the Marketplace tab, then choose Usages.
What is a Land Use?
Land use represents large-scale planning areas, not intended built form. Land use usages often cover multiple parcels.
Land use properties: Height (an intended maximum for the zoned area), Jobs, Site Coverage Ratio, and Floor Space Ratio.
These are default custom properties on Giraffe's template Land Use usages, not properties Giraffe enforces on every Land Use usage you create.
Draw a land use area
Click the Land Use tool in the drawing toolbar.
Select a usage from the dropdown.
Click on the map to draw a rectangle.
The draw-bar only offers a rectangle for Land Use usages. To draw one as a polygon, line, or point instead, draw a plain shape with the Polygon, Polyline, or Point tool, then select the Land Use usage from the usage dropdown in Quick Properties.
