What is Split Donate and how does it work?

What givestar's Split Donate feature is, how it works, and how to set it up on your fundraising page.

Split Donate is givestar's feature that lets you support more than one charity with a single donation or fundraising page. Here's how it works.

What is Split Donate?

Split Donate allows a fundraising page to be linked to up to four charities at once. When a donor gives to that page, their donation is automatically divided between all the selected charities - no extra steps needed from the donor.

Who sets up Split Donate?

The fundraiser sets up Split Donate when creating their page. They choose which charities to support and how the donation should be split between them.

How is the split calculated?

By default, donations are divided equally between the charities selected. For example, if you choose two charities, each receives 50% of every donation. If you choose four, each receives 25%.

Custom splits (e.g. 70%/30%) may be available depending on your setup.

Before setting up your fundraising page contact us at support@givestar.io if you need a specific allocation.

Please note that once the fundraising page has been created we are unable to do custom splits.

Does Gift Aid apply to split donations?

Yes — if each charity is individually registered for Gift Aid, each can claim Gift Aid on their portion of the donation, provided the donor has made a valid Gift Aid declaration.

How to set up Split Donate on your fundraising page

  1. When creating your fundraising page, search for and select up to four charities in the charity selection step

  2. givestar will automatically apply an equal split across the charities you've chosen

  3. Your page will show all selected charities and donors will see their donation goes to multiple causes

Please note that we are unable to change the donation split once the fundraising page has been created. If you would like to change the split after the page has been created you will need to delete your fundraising page and create a new one.
