If your charity is registered for Gift Aid on givestar, here's what to expect when it comes to receiving your Gift Aid payment — and what to do if it hasn't arrived.
When does givestar pay out Gift Aid?
Gift Aid is claimed from HMRC by givestar on behalf of registered charities, but only if the charity has nominated givestar as a Gift Aid agent. The process works as follows:
Gift Aid declarations are collected from eligible donors at the point of donation
givestar submits Gift Aid claims to HMRC periodically — typically on a quarterly basis
HMRC processes claims and pays out to givestar, which then passes the funds to your charity
The full process from donation to Gift Aid receipt can take 3–6 months depending on HMRC processing times
How will I know when Gift Aid has been paid?
Gift Aid payments will appear in your monthly settlement report in Charity Admin, clearly labelled separately from your standard donation income. Log in to charityadmin.givestar.io and go to Statements to view your settlement history.
What if my Gift Aid payment is delayed?
If you're expecting a Gift Aid payment and haven't received it, here's what to check first:
Check the timeline — if it's been less than 6 months since the donations were made, the claim may still be in process with HMRC
Check your settlement reports — log in to Charity Admin and review your recent statements to see if a Gift Aid payment has already been made
Check your Gift Aid registration is active — if your HMRC Gift Aid registration has lapsed or your details have changed, claims may be on hold
Still not received?
If it's been more than 6 months and you haven't received a Gift Aid payment you were expecting, contact us at support@givestar.io with:
Your charity name and registration number
The approximate period the donations were made
The amount of Gift Aid you're expecting
We'll investigate with our finance team and provide an update as quickly as possible.
