How to register a golf course on Google My Business (Business Profile)

If you are not yet registered on Google My Business (now called Google Business Profile) and you want to register a golf course or golf club, follow these steps to do so correctly from scratch.

Step by step guide to registering your golf course:

  • Step 1: Access Google Business Profile.

Go to https://www.google.com/business/ and click on ‘Manage now’.

  • Step 2: Log in with your Google account.

Use an account that you want to associate with the business. It is advisable to use an institutional account.

  • Step 3: Enter the name of the business.

Enter the name as you want it to appear on Google. E.g.: Las Colinas Golf Club.

  • Step 4: Choose the business category.

Enter “Golf club”. This is an official category. You can also use “Golf course” or “Golf complex” as secondary categories.

  • Step 5: Indicate whether you have a physical location.

Select “Yes” if customers visit the location. Then enter the full address.

  • Step 6: Locate the business on the map.

Drag the pin on the map to match the exact location of the course.

  • Step 7: Add service area (optional).

If you provide services outside the course (golf lessons, events, etc.), you can add service areas.

  • Step 8: Contact details.

Add a phone number and website. If you don't have a website, you can skip this (although it is recommended to have one).

  • Step 9: Verification.

Google will ask to verify the business, usually with a letter containing a PIN code. Sometimes by phone, email or video call.

Tips for golf courses.

  • Upload high-quality photos of the course, facilities, restaurant, lessons, etc.

  • Include additional services: restaurant, lessons, golf shop, etc., as secondary categories.

  • Invite players and visitors to leave reviews on Google to improve your visibility.

How to change the main category of your business on Google My Business

Your business category on Google is key to determining how you appear in searches. If you need to change your business type (for example, from Hotel to Restaurant), follow these steps:

Steps to change the main category on Google My Business

  1. Log in to your Google Business account: Go to https://business.google.com/ and log in with the account associated with your listing.

  2. Select your business profile: If you have multiple locations or businesses, select the one you want to modify.

  3. Click on ‘Edit profile’: In the main panel or from the Google search engine (if you are logged in), you can click on the button that says ‘Edit profile’ or on the pencil icon ✏️ next to your listing.

  4. Click on ‘Business information’ > ‘Category’: Here you will see the current category (e.g. Hotel). Click on it to modify it.

  5. Search for and select the new category: Type in “Restaurant” (or another category that suits your business) and select the most appropriate one. You can add a main category and several secondary categories if you need to.

  6. Save your changes: Click on “Save”. Google will review the changes before they are applied.

Important considerations

  • You can only have one main category that describes your main activity.

  • Some features, such as the booking button for hotels or the menu for restaurants, depend directly on the category.

  • Changes may take hours or even days to be reflected and approved.

  • You cannot have two main categories at the same time (you cannot be a Hotel and a Restaurant as your main category, but you can use one as a secondary category).

Did Google reject the change?

If after a few days your category does not change, you can:

How do I remove other booking providers from my Google My Business listing (Company Profile)?

What appears on your Google Business Profile listing (formerly Google My Business) as ‘Book with...’ or links to third parties (Booking, TripAdvisor, OpenTable, etc.) are part of the “Bookings” / "Reserve with Google" feature.

Here's the important thing:

  • This is not always controlled by the business owner. Google automatically adds booking providers that are integrated with Google.

  • Even if you haven't activated them, they may appear if you work with any of those platforms (sometimes even if you've ever had a profile created there).

Options for removing them:

  1. Check if you have ‘Reservations’ enabled in your dashboard.

    • Go to your listing from Google Search or Maps → ‘Edit profile’ → ‘Reservation services’.

    • If you see provider options, check if you can deactivate them manually.

  2. Contact the provider directly

    • If your business appears on a portal you don't want to work with, you should ask that provider to remove your business from their platform.

    • When they remove it, Google will stop showing that button after a while.

  3. Request help from Google Business Profile Support

    • Go to Google Business Profile Help → ‘Contact support’.

    • Explain that your listing shows booking links with providers that you did not authorise and request their removal.

  4. Be patient after removal

    • Even after the provider or Google removes them, it may take a few days for the listing to update.
