What is Job Role DNA?

The Job Role DNA is the unique profile that employers use to assess and match candidates to roles. The DNA is a composite of PATH Assessment results of the employees who perform a specific job role. The algorithm to produce the Job Role DNA takes a granular approach to determine the traits and behaviors that make high performers successful. Every employer can tune each Job Role DNA by calibrating the weightings of each employee in the DNA. Weighting top performers higher based on their productivity or other success factors.

Job Role DNA Weighting

Job Role DNA weightings default to 5 for all employees. It is not required to use weighting as part of your DNA but is recommended to enhance the accuracy of your results.

Weightings Scale

The 1-7 scale typically ranges from 1, indicating the lowest level of performance or competency, to 7, indicating the highest level of performance or competency. Here is an example breakdown of the scale:

1 - Needs development: Performance is well below the expected level and falls short of meeting minimum standards.

2 - Below average: Performance is below the expected level and requires significant improvement to meet standards.

3 - Average: Performance meets the expected level but needs improvement to reach a higher level of competency.

4 - Good: Performance is consistently above the expected level and demonstrates competency in the given area.

5 - Very Good: Performance is consistently and significantly above the expected level and demonstrates strong competency in the given area.

6 - Excellent: Performance is outstanding and exceeds the expected level in every way, demonstrating exceptional competency in the given area.

7 - Exceptional: Performance is exceptional and represents the highest level of competency possible in the given area, setting a standard for others to follow.

How do I map my performance ratings to this scale?

Map your performance ratings to this scale based on the definitions above.

  • Employee weightings of 4 or higher have a stronger impact on the Job Role DNA.

  • Employee weightings of 3 or below are weighted less strongly and have a smaller impact on the Job Role DNA.

How and when to calibrate Job Role DNA

Job Role DNA must be generated before assessing candidates for a job role. To calibrate Job Role DNA:

  1. As an Administrator user, navigate to the Manage DNA page

  2. Select the Calibrate DNA button

  3. On the Calibrate DNA page set the weighting for each employee in the DNA to the desired value; see above for more about weightings. You can set the weighting for employees who have not completed the PATH, but their results won't be used until they complete the PATH.

  4. Select Save and Update to generate the Job Role DNA results.

Note: If you are not using the Calibration functionality, you can generate Job Role DNA directly from the Job Role DNA page by clicking Generate Job Role DNA.

How Job Role DNA is used in candidate matching

Job Role DNA is used to match candidates to a role based on traits and behaviors.

Every job has an associated Job Role DNA, with dominant traits and behaviors of employees that are successful in that role.

Candidates take the PATH Assessment to identify their work traits and behaviors, and we compare the candidate's results to the Job Role DNA to generate a match score.
