By law you will need a COSHH assessment if you or your employees are exposed to substances that are considered hazardous to health. COSHH assessments are required to protect workers by listing control measures to limit exposure.

HANDS HQ provides COSHH assessments for all advanced, pro and enterprise customers.

HSE lists the following as substances are considered as hazardous to health:

  • Chemicals

  • Products containing chemicals

  • Fumes

  • Dusts

  • Vapours

  • Mists

  • Nanotechnology

  • Gases and asphyxiating gases and

  • Biological agents (germs). If the packaging has any of the hazard symbols then it is classed as a hazardous substance.

  • Germs that cause diseases such as leptospirosis or legionnaires disease and germs used in laboratories.

The following are not covered under COSHH regulations as they have different requirements:

  • Lead,

  • Asbestos

  • Radioactive substances
