HealthNote has the ability to capture and update insurances, but we have received feedback that when Athena receives incorrect plan information from patients, it is prone to causing issues with billing. In order to mitigate this, our default behavior with insurance information is now to surface this detail in the HealthNote Dashboard and to only create a new record in Athena in the event that:
A patient does not already have a primary insurance plan listed (in which case Health Note will add a primary insurance plan), or:
An insurance card image is missing (Health Note will add the missing image to the correct plan, whether primary, secondary, or tertiary)
At this time, Healthnote adds primary insurance to Athena if it does not currently exist. Secondary insurances will not be added but will be captured and surfaced for download through the Healthnote Dashboard. The dashboard in current state does not notify you that a patient has added/updated primary and/or secondary insurance. Our product team is prioritizing alerts for insurance to remedy the situation. We do not have an ETA but will monitor and notify as when the feature is available. We recommend that you review all patients with appointments daily for updates to insurance.
