How does patient messaging work? Will patients receive emails or text messages?

Updated over a week ago

Health Note offers a convenient messaging feature that enables you to send appointment reminders to patients via email or SMS. These reminders will be sent on four separate occasions: four days before the appointment, two days before, one day before, and on the day of the appointment.

Patients who have consented to text messaging in their EMR and have provided a valid phone number will be sent SMS messages. If the phone number is invalid or the message fails to send, the appointment on the Health Note dashboard will be marked with an error flag. It is worth noting that some common causes of the error flag include situations where the patient does not have a smartphone, their phone is turned off, or they do not have service.

If a patient has not consented to text messaging in the EMR, they will receive appointment reminders via email.

If you need to send a reminder manually, simply log in to the Health Note dashboard, locate the patient's appointment, and click the "resend" button (represented by a paper airplane next to the check-in bell). From there, you can choose the appropriate message template or create a custom message. Please be aware that sending a manual message will update the patient's preferred contact method to match the method used for that message.
