How does opting in / opting out work?

Updated over a week ago

Patient SMS messaging has become an important tool for healthcare providers to communicate with their patients effectively. However, it is essential to ensure that patients have the option to opt-out of these messages. Regulations require that every SMS message includes a line stating "reply STOP to opt out."

When a patient decides to opt-out, they can reply with "Stop," "Cancel," or "Unsubscribe" to any messaging they receive. Once they have sent this reply, they will no longer automatically receive any text messages. However, it is important to note that patients who opt-out of SMS messaging can still receive emails regarding their appointment.

If a patient changes their mind and wants to receive text messages again, they can opt back in by sending the word "Start," "Yes," or "Unstop" to the same number they used to opt out. This process ensures that patients have control over the communications they receive from their healthcare providers.

By adhering to these guidelines, healthcare providers can ensure that their patients receive only the communications they want and need.
