This article explains how to create a case in Hearsay, set extraction code options, and share the case with a custodian if needed. Once created, you’ll be able to generate an extraction code for use in the Hearsay Extractor application.
Step 1: Click New Case.
In the top right corner of your screen, click New Case.
Step 2: Enter case details
Fill out the case information, then click Create.
Case name
Visibility (assign to team members, if needed)
Sharing mode (see details below)
Custodian name and email (required if extraction will be remote)
Sharing mode options:
Require client to search and select relevant conversations
The custodian will manually search, select, and share conversations once the extraction completes.
Specify conversation search results to share automatically
Pre-program the extraction code with search queries. Conversations matching those queries will automatically be shared once the extraction completes, with no action needed from the custodian.
Step 3: Create the case and extraction code
Click Create. Be sure to enter the custodian’s name and email if they will be completing the extraction remotely.
After creating the case
You’ll be redirected to the Extraction Codes tab within the case.
If custodian contact info was entered, their email will appear under Shared With.
To fix typos (e.g., custodian email) or adjust search queries, click Edit next to the extraction code. Follow this guide on how to edit an extraction code.
