How to create a Landing page

Step-by-step guide to creating a new Landing page in Atlas, from selecting the content type through the generation process.

Written by Atlas Team

Creating a Landing page in Atlas takes just a few steps. You'll optionally set your research context, pick a content type (Listicle or Advertorial), select a theme and product, and then let the AI generate the page for you.

In this article:

Before you start

Before creating a Landing page, make sure:

  • The product you want to feature is already added to your Shopify store. Landing pages pull from products already in your Shopify catalog, so the product needs to exist in Shopify first.

  • You know whether you want a Listicle or an Advertorial. If you're not sure, see [Landing pages] for a breakdown of when to use each format.

Step 1: Open the Landing page creator

There are two ways to start creating a Landing page:

Option A: From the Explore Atlas tools section

  • Open the Atlas app from your Shopify admin.

  • On the dashboard, scroll down to the Explore Atlas tools section.

  • Click Create landing pages inside the Landing pages card.

This takes you directly into the Landing page creation wizard.

ℹ️ When you start from the Landing pages card, the generated Landing page will NOT be assigned to any project automatically. If you want to assign it to a project, use Option B instead, or assign it manually afterward from the Pages tab.

Option B: From the + Create new button

  • On the dashboard, click + Create new in the top right corner.

  • In the Create with Atlas AI modal, click the Landing pages card.

  • At the bottom of the modal, select a Project destination (choose an existing project, create a new one, or leave it unassigned).

  • Proceed into the creation wizard.

💡 If you're using projects to stay organized, use the + Create new button so you can assign the Landing page to its destination project before generation. This saves you from having to assign it manually afterward.

Step 2: Set research context (optional)

At the top of the Landing page creation screen, you'll see a Research context (Optional) dropdown with the subtitle "Add ICP research to generate highly targeted direct response copy."

Atlas uses an Ideal Customer Profile (ICP) to generate targeted, direct-response copy. By default, Atlas auto-generates this ICP based on the product data. However, if you have your own customer research, you can provide it for more tailored results.

The dropdown has three options:

  • None - Use auto-generated ICP. Atlas creates the ICP automatically based on the product data. This is the default and works well for most cases.

  • Enter research text. Paste your own customer research, audience notes, or ICP details directly into the text field that appears.

  • Upload document. Upload a PDF or DOCX file containing your customer insights, market research, or ICP data.

💡 If you're running paid ads or targeting a specific audience segment, providing your own research helps Atlas generate copy that resonates more strongly with that audience. For guidance on writing effective research context, see [Writing effective research context for Landing pages].

Step 3: Select content type

Choose between two content formats by clicking the card for the one you want:

Listicle

A numbered list format, great for "Top 10" style content. Works well for products with multiple distinct benefits and readers who skim before they read.

Example output: "8 Reasons Why [Product] Could Be the Secret to [Benefit]"

Advertorial

Editorial article style, perfect for storytelling. Works well for products that need explanation, education, or a narrative that builds trust before the sale.

The selected card will be highlighted with a blue border.

Step 4: Select theme

Click the Select theme dropdown and choose the Shopify theme where you want to add your generated Landing page.

ℹ️ The generated Landing page will be imported into your theme as a Page, not a product page or blog post. After importing, you can find it in your Shopify theme by going to Online Store → Themes → [Your Theme] → Customize → Pages.

Step 5: Select product

  • Click Browse products next to the "Select product" field.

  • A product picker will appear showing every product in your Shopify store.

  • Select the product you want to create the Landing page for.

The selected product will appear with its thumbnail image and price.

The AI uses all available product information from Shopify, including:

  • Product title

  • Product description

  • Product images

  • Price

  • Variants (if applicable)

  • Any metafields or additional product data

Step 6: Generate your Landing page

Once you have:

  • Set research context (optional)

  • Selected a content type (Listicle or Advertorial)

  • Selected a theme

  • Selected a product

Click Generate Landing page in the top-right corner.

💡 The Generate button may appear grayed out if you haven't selected a product. Make sure all required fields are completed before clicking.

The generation process

When you click Generate, Atlas starts an AI-powered content creation process. You'll see a progress screen with a percentage counter and a heading that reads "Crafting your listicle" (or advertorial).

Generation stages

The AI moves through four stages:

  • Fetching product data. Atlas retrieves all product information from your Shopify store.

  • AI analyzing your product. The AI analyzes your product details, images, and custom context.

  • Creating listicle items (or advertorial content). The AI generates the content structure and individual sections.

  • Preparing for preview. Final formatting and preview generation.

You can close the tab

You don't have to wait on the generation screen. At the bottom of the progress view, you'll see:

"You can close this page and come back later. Your content will continue generating in the background."

This means:

  • You don't need to keep the browser tab open

  • Generation continues on Atlas's servers

  • You can return to the Pages tab later to see the finished result

  • The status will update when generation is complete

How long does it take?

Most Landing pages generate within 1-3 minutes. Complex products or detailed research context may take slightly longer.

While you wait

During generation, Atlas shows helpful tips in a "While we craft your listicle..." box with information about what makes Landing pages effective.
