Why do I have more than one cart drawer, and which one is live?

Only one cart drawer can be active at a time. The Status column tells you which, and activating another switches the first to draft.

Only one cart drawer can be active at a time, and the Status column on the Cart Upsells list tells you which one it is: exactly one row shows Active and the rest show Draft. Having several drawers is normal and harmless. The problem is usually that you have been editing a draft and wondering why nothing changed on your store.

In this article:

How to tell which is live

  1. Open Cart Upsells in the Atlas menu.

  2. Look at the Status column.

  3. The row showing Active is the one customers see. Every other row shows Draft.

You can also check inside the editor: Cart status shows Active or Draft for the drawer you have open.

When Active, that cart upsell is shown in the cart drawer, and you can only have one active at a time.

Why you have several

All of these are normal:

Cause

What happened

You started from a template more than once

Each attempt created a drawer

You built one during onboarding

The guided setup creates one, sometimes as a draft

You duplicated one to try a change safely

Sensible practice, and it leaves two

An A/B test created variants

Variants appear alongside the original

You built a seasonal version

And kept the old one

There is no penalty for having several. Drafts show nothing to customers, create no discounts, and cost nothing.

Switching which one is live

  1. Open the drawer you want live.

  2. Set Cart status to Active.

  3. Select Save, and wait for Saved successfully!

The previously active drawer becomes a draft automatically. Nothing is deleted and you can switch back at any time.

ℹ️ There is no confirmation prompt for this. Activating a drawer silently deactivates the one that was live, so check which drawer you have open before you flip the status.

The mistake this usually causes

By far the most common: editing a draft and expecting the storefront to change.

You open a drawer, adjust the reward bar, save, check your store, and nothing is different. The edits saved correctly. They just saved to a drawer that is not live.

Before editing anything, check the Status on the row you are opening. If it says Draft and you meant to change what customers see, you have the wrong drawer.

💡 Name your drawers so the live one is obvious. Cart upsell name is internal only, so something like "LIVE - main" and "old - Nov sale" costs nothing and removes the whole class of mistake.

Tidying up

Old drawers do no harm, but they make it easier to open the wrong one.

  • Delete anything you will genuinely never use. The confirmation asks Are you sure you want to delete, with a Delete button.

  • Rename anything you are keeping, so its purpose is clear.

  • Keep any drawer whose configuration you might want back. A draft is a free backup.

⚠️ Deleting a cart drawer cannot be undone. If a drawer represents work you might want again, rename it rather than deleting it.

The error behind this rule

If your storefront reports cart_upsell_configuration_id is required when multiple configurations exist, Atlas has found more than one cart drawer and cannot tell which to serve.

Fix it the same way: open the drawer you want live, set Cart status to Active, and save. That makes one drawer unambiguously the live one.

If two look active

This should not happen, since activating one deactivates the others.

  1. Refresh the list. The most likely cause is a stale page.

  2. Open each and check Cart status in the editor, which reads the saved state directly.

  3. Check whether they are A/B test variants. Variants belong to a running test and are shown alongside the original rather than being separate active drawers.

If two genuinely show Active after a refresh, contact support from the chat bubble in Atlas, or at support@helloatlas.io, with your store URL and both drawer names. Meanwhile, open the one you want live and save it again to force the state.
