Whether you're looking for a quick paragraph to introduce a new concept or want to explore a controversial issue in an age-appropriate way, this tool provides clear, customizable, and engaging content to support your classroom needs.
What Can the Text Generator Do?
The Text Generator:
Produces custom readings based on the topic you enter
Matches the text to your selected genre, grade level, and length
Generates a Low, Medium, and High reading on the same topic to accommodate for students' individual learning needs.
Supports multiple genres like Argumentative, Informative, and Narrative
Perfect for lesson planning, small group instruction, or enrichment, this tool saves you time and supports literacy goals.
Using the Tool
First, use the dropdown menu under Genre to choose the type of text you want (e.g., Argumentative, Narrative, Informative).
Then pick the appropriate Grade Band from Elementary, Middle, and High School.
Next, decide how much text you want the AI to generate. The Length dropdown offers:
A paragraph
About a page (several paragraphs)
Longer (full-length article)
Type your topic and any other relevant information. The more specific your description, the better the result. You can also opt to upload a file for the reading to be based on.
Tip! Be as specific as possible! For example: Instead of “Pollution,” try “The effects of plastic pollution on sea turtles. If you need additional support in crafting a prompt, use the HMH Assist chat on the left to fine-tune your ideas!Click Generate to generate your readings.
What's Next?
Once your texts are generated, you will see the Low, Medium, and High-leveled readings.
Click Details to view and edit the prompt if you'd like to try a new outcome.
Chat with HMH Assist on the left to get ideas for how to improve your prompt.
Copy or export the text using the icons at the bottom of the reading. You can export readings to either a PDF or Word Document.
