Create a New Project

Introduction

This guide will help you create a new project in Tobe Builder. Follow these steps to set up your project with the correct location and settings.

Step 1: Open the Create Menu

  1. Complete Login flow and click Continue.

  2. In Projects Menu, click Create at the top of the menu to switch to the create menu.

Step 2: Enter Project Name

  1. In the Project Name field, enter a name for your project.

Step 3: Enter Location Information

  1. Use one of the following methods to enter location information:

    • Address Lookup: Start typing the address and press Enter to search. Select the required address from the list of search results.

    • Map Selection: Navigate to the desired location on the map and click to select it.

    • Manual Input: If you know the latitude and longitude, enter them directly in decimal degrees format.

Step 4: Enter Optional Project Data

  1. Grid Offset (X, Y, Z): Set to 0,0,0

  2. Custom GIS Data: Provide custom GIS data for the base map and/or elevation map if required.

Step 5: Create the Project

  1. Click Create at the bottom of the menu to finalize and create the project.

Create New Geo-located Project

Tobe Builder allows you to easily federate your georeferenced BIMs* at their real-world location on the globe. To do this the project location (latitude, longitude) must be converted into a grid position in your projects’ Coordinate Reference System (CRS) and provided during project creation. The calculated grid position is provided via the Grid Offset fields during project creation.

This is a transformation from WGS84 (latitude, longitude) to the Coordinate Reference System (northing, easting or X,Y) your BIMs were created in.

This can be done by asking your GIS coordinator to supply the required information or by using your preferred coordinate transformation website or application to perform the required transformation.

The following example uses www.epsg.io/transform to determine the grid offset for a project located in Brisbane, Australia. The CRS for the example BIM is GDA94, BCSG02 (EPSG/WKID = 3113)

Step 1: Follow steps 1-3 above

Step 4: Enter Grid Offset

  1. Grid Offset (X, Y, Z): Calculate and enter grid offset

  • Copy project location (latitude, longitude) from Tobe Builder into epsg.io Input coordinates. Set the format to “dec”

  • Select the output coordinate system

  • Click “Transform”

  • Copy (X,Y) from Output coordinates in epsg.io to (X,Y) into the grid offset fields in TobeMaps Configurator (Ctrl+V to paste)

Step 5: Create the Project

  1. Click Create at the bottom of the menu to finalize and create the project.

Using Custom Basemaps

By default, Tobe Builder uses a global GIS scene as the basemap in WGS84 Pseudo Mercator (EPSG 3857) provided by ESRI via ArcGIS Online. If your project requires a GIS basemap in a projection other than WGS 84:

  • Define a custom GIS basemap and elevation service in any projection supported by ArcGIS Online or via Portal if the company is a ArcGIS Enterprise user.

  • Tobe Builder will detect the EPSG code from the provided custom GIS data source.

If you're unsure about your project location, especially which grid system to use, consult your digital, BIM, or GIS lead.

Additional Notes

  • Z direction is likely to be zero. If the model is in the wrong place vertically, measure the vertical distance in Tobe Builder and move the model after placing.

  • This information connects the approximate Lat Long and the grid offset to allow Tobe Builder Pro to place models in the correct position automatically.

When you hit Create, the project will be created with the base GIS layer ready for you to place digital assets.
