Configure tunnel sketch and profiles to locate the monitoring points

Introduction

The Deformation Profiles page allows you to create, view, and edit profiles that define how deformation or displacement images are displayed and measured. Each profile typically contains settings for image dimensions, scaling, canvas size, and reference points—these parameters are crucial for accurate measurements and visualization in Geosens.

To access this page: Click on the top left corner to open the side bar, click on ‘Settings’ - 'Project Info' to access the page.

On this page, several sections are available for configuration:

  1. Deformation Profiles Section: to create a new deformation profile. This function will be introduced in this Manual.

  2. Mark Points Section: to map the monitoring points on each profile. Please refer to Manual - Tunnel Sketch Mark VD/LD Points.


1. Page & Fields Introduction

This section provides introductions on how to set up each field of deformation profiles and the steps to create/edit/delete any existing deformation profiles.

  1. Profile Name

    • A descriptive title for the profile (e.g., “Tunnel East Wall,” “TV010,” etc.).

    • Used throughout the system to identify this particular deformation profile.

  2. Profile Code

    • A unique code or reference for the profile.

    • Helps with searching and indexing profiles within the system.

  3. Profile Image

    • The path or name of the reference image used to visualize the deformation.

    • Often displayed as a thumbnail in the main table.

  4. Fit Canvas (checkbox)

    • When checked, the system automatically scales the image to fit the canvas dimensions.

    • Overrides manual settings for image size if enabled.

  5. Is Project? (checkbox)

    • Indicates whether the profile is associated with a specific project or is a general-purpose profile.

    • Used for organizational or filtering purposes.

More fields can be dragged and displayed into the table by clicking on the 'Column Chooser ' button, dragging the fields and dropping them into the table.

  1. projDisplacementProfileId: The unique identifier for the displacement profile of a project.

  2. Prj Image Id: The unique identifier for the project image.

  3. Image Ratio

    • The aspect ratio or scale factor used when rendering the image.

    • If left blank or set to 1, the system may automatically calculate the ratio based on width and height.

  4. Image Width

    • The real-world width of the reference image, typically in millimeters (mm) or another unit.

    • Used for scaling measurements on the image.

  5. Image Height

    • The real-world height of the reference image, in the same unit as Image Width.

    • Ensures accurate vertical scaling.

  6. Image Pixel Width

    • The width of the reference image in pixels.

    • Typically extracted from the image file itself or entered manually if known.

  7. Image Pixel Height: The height of the profile image in pixels.

  8. Canvas Width

    • The width of the “canvas” or display area in which the image will be placed, in pixels.

    • This determines how the image is rendered on-screen.

  9. Canvas Height

    • The height of the canvas in pixels.

    • Must be set to match your desired display area for the image.

  10. Canvas Pixel Width

    • Used to specify how many pixels in the system correspond to one real-world unit of width on the canvas.

    • Can be left at default if the system automatically calculates scaling.

  11. Canvas Pixel Height: The height of the canvas in pixels.

  12. Image Top Left Point X / Image Top Left Point Y

    • The X and Y coordinates for the top-left corner of the image in relation to a reference or origin point on the canvas.

    • Helps position the image correctly within the canvas.

  13. Rep Image Top Left Point X / Rep Image Top Left Point Y

    • Additional reference points for a “representative” or overlay image.

    • Used if multiple images or overlays must align in a consistent position.

  14. Notes

    • A free-form text field for any additional information, comments, or special instructions regarding the deformation profile.

  15. Updated By / Created By / Date (read-only)

    • System-generated fields showing who created or last updated the profile and when.

    • Useful for audit trails and version tracking


2. Create a New Deformation Profile

  1. Click on the '+New' button above the table.

  2. A New Deformation Profile panel will appear on the right side of the screen.

  3. Fill in the fields as needed (see the above section 1 for details on each field).

  4. For the setting of profile image, you can either upload new images by clicking on 'Image File'; or select from existing image by clicking on the 'Existing Image' drop-down list. The existing image list can be configured referring to the instructions on Image Management.

  5. Click Create to add the new profile to the table.


3. Editing an Existing Deformation Profile

  1. In the Deformation Profiles table, locate the row corresponding to the profile you want to edit. Tick to select it.

  2. Click Edit (or the pencil icon) on the top-right corner of the table.

  3. The Edit Deformation Profile panel will open, displaying the current settings for that profile.

  4. Modify the fields as necessary (see section 1 above for field descriptions).

  5. Click Save to confirm your changes.


4. Delete an Existing Deformation Profile

  1. Locate the profile in the table. Tick to select it.

  2. Click the Delete button (or trash icon).

  3. Confirm the deletion in the prompt that appears.

  4. The profile is removed from the table and cannot be used in measurements or analysis.


5. Best Practices

  • Use clear naming conventions for Profile Name and Code to easily identify the location or type of deformation being tracked.

  • Keep field units consistent (e.g., if Image Width and Height are in millimeters, ensure all other dimension fields match).

  • Regularly review and update notes and reference points to ensure accurate alignment, especially if new instruments or new site conditions arise.

  • Document changes in the Notes field to maintain an audit trail for future reference.


6. Troubleshooting

  • Images not displaying correctly:

    • Check Canvas Width/Height vs. Image Width/Height.

    • Ensure the Fit Canvas checkbox is correctly set.

  • Incorrect scaling in measurements:

    • Verify the Image Width and Image Height fields are accurate real-world dimensions.

    • Re-check the Image Pixel Width if the system relies on pixel-to-real-world conversion.

  • Coordinates misaligned:

    • Adjust Image Top Left Point X/Y or Rep Image Top Left Point X/Y.

    • Make sure the reference origin is correct.
