Instrument Types

Configure Instrument Types to be used in project

1. Introduction

An Instrument Type defines the configuration of a specific kind of instrument used in your projects, and the Instrument Types page allows you to view, create, edit, and manage these definitions to ensure consistency and streamline instrument setup across your system.


2. Page Navigation

  1. Sign in to GeoSens.

  2. From the left menu expand Instrument → click Instrument Types to access the page.


3. Instrument Types Data Table Introduction

This section provides fields introduction and how to read the table.

3.1 Fields introduction

Field Name

Introduction

Instrument Type

The type of instrument being described.

Prj Instrument Type ID

The project-specific identifier for the instrument type.

Type Code

A code representing the type of instrument.

Name

The name of the instrument type.

Icon

A visual representation or icon associated with the instrument type.

Abbreviation

A short form or abbreviation for the instrument type name.

Enabled

Indicates whether the instrument type is enabled (active) or not (inactive).

Description

Additional details or notes about the instrument type.

3.2 Additional Information Column

Additional columns can be dragged and dropped from the column chooser '' into the data table to customize the view and add more information.

Field Name

Introduction

Instrument Type Id

A unique identifier for the instrument type.

Model

The specific model name or number of the instrument.

Is Activity

Indicates whether the instrument type is currently active or in use.

Created By

The user who originally created the instrument type entry.

Created On

The date and time when the instrument type was first created.

Updated By

The user who last modified the instrument type entry.

Updated On

The date and time of the most recent update to the instrument type entry.

3.3 Viewing & Filtering

  1. Sort: Click any column header to sort ascending/descending.

  2. Filter: Hover over a header, click the funnel icon, and define your criteria (e.g. Abbreviation = “SSP”).


4. Instrument Types Table Function Bar Introduction

This section provides introductions on function bar that located at the top-right corner of the instrument type data grid.

Function Name

Introduction

Edit Grid

Allows you to enter inline edit mode, customize or modify the layout and content of the instrument type grid.

New

Opens a form or dialog to create a new instrument type entry.

Edit

Tick to select an existing instrument type row and enables editing of the selected instrument type entry.

Disable

Tick to select an existing instrument type row and deactivates the selected instrument type, making it inactive in the system.


5. Creating a new instrument type

Steps below provide instructions on creating a new instrument type.

  1. From the left menu expand Instrument → click Instrument Types to access the page.

  2. At the top right corner function bar, click on '+New' to open and create a new instrument type.

  3. Fill in all the necessary fields in the panel and click on 'Create' to finish the creation. All the fields are introduced below:

Field Name

Introduction

Instrument Type

A dropdown menu to select the category or type of instrument.

Type Code

A text box to enter a unique code representing the instrument type. Will autofill after selecting instrument type.

Type Name

A text box to enter the full name of the instrument type. Will autofill after selecting instrument type.

Type Abbreviation

A text box to enter a shortened version or acronym of the type name. Will autofill after selecting instrument type.

Icon

A dropdown menu to choose an icon that visually represents the instrument type. Will autofill after selecting instrument type, but users can also click to customize displaying icon.

Description

A text area to provide additional details or notes about the instrument type.

Admin Only

A checkbox to indicate if the instrument type is restricted to admin users.

Is Activity

A checkbox (currently disabled) to mark whether the type as an activity.

Disabled

A checkbox to mark the instrument type as inactive or unavailable.

NOTE: All available instrument types are pre-configured in global and tenant level, to assign the license of specific instrument types into this project. If the required instrument type is not available in the instrument type list, please contact administrator.


6. Editing an Existing Type

  1. Select the row by clicking its checkbox.

  2. Click Edit at the top right function bar.

  3. Modify any field in the panel.

  4. Click Save.

Quick inline edits: Click Edit Grid, make changes directly in cells, then click Save Grid.


7. Enabling / Disabling Types

  • Disable: Tick to select one or more types → click Disable to mark them inactive.

  • Re-enable: Filter by Enabled = false, select rows → click Enable in the More (▼) menu.


8. Best Practices & Tips

  • Naming: Always include the short code in parentheses for consistency (e.g. “Optical Prism (OPR)”).

  • Abbreviation: Keep it unique and 3–4 characters.

  • Icons: Icons can be uploaded via Images Management.

  • Descriptions: Add concise purpose statements to aid new users.
