Attributes are managed per object. For example, a client attribute only affects client profiles, and a staff attribute only affects staff profiles.
System attributes are built in and cannot be deleted. Custom attributes are the ones you can update and delete.
Updating an attribute from Settings
Go to Settings, open Objects, select the object you want (Clients, Staff, Sites, or Incidents), then open the Attributes tab.
Find the attribute in the list. You can use Search attributes, and you can also use filters such as Type, Properties, and Hidden field.
Open the actions menu on the attribute and select Edit Attribute. This opens the edit screen for that attribute.
From here you can update:
- Attribute name
- Input type
- Description
- Options and option colours (for Select and Multi select)
- Maximum stars (for Rating)
- Show on submit form (for Incident attributes)
When you are done, select Save Changes.
Important notes about options:
If you use Select or Multi select, options must be unique. If option names are duplicated, Imploy will block the update. Options can also be reordered.
Updating an attribute from a profile layout editor
You can also update attributes while you are configuring the profile layout.
Open a record (Client, Staff, Site, Incident, or Site Incident). Open the three dot menu in the header and select Configure layout. In the layout editor, each custom field has an actions menu where you can choose Edit Attribute.
This is useful when you are building the layout and notice a field name or field type needs changing.
Deleting an attribute from Settings
Go to Settings, open Objects, select the object, then open the Attributes tab.
Find the custom attribute you want to remove, open the actions menu, and select Delete Attribute.
A confirmation window will appear explaining that the attribute will be deleted from the configuration list. Select Delete Attribute to confirm.
Once deleted, the attribute is removed from that object and will no longer appear in the profile layout or attribute list.
Deleting an attribute from the profile layout editor
If you are configuring the profile layout (Configure layout), you can delete a custom attribute from the field actions menu as well. This is helpful when you are cleaning up old fields while reorganising the layout.
Hiding a field versus deleting an attribute
Hiding and deleting are different.
Hiding a field removes it from the profile layout but keeps the attribute available. You can show it again later from the Hidden list.
Deleting an attribute removes the custom attribute completely for that object. It cannot be restored unless you recreate it.
If you are unsure, hide the field first rather than deleting it.
Troubleshooting
If you do not see Edit Attribute or Delete Attribute, it is likely a system attribute. Only custom attributes can be edited and deleted.
If Save Changes fails for a Select or Multi select attribute, check that the option names are unique and that there is at least one option.
If you cannot find an attribute on the profile, it may be hidden. Check the attributes list for a Hidden property, or use the Hidden control in the layout editor to show it again.
