How to Create an Attribute

Creating an attribute adds a new custom field to an object in Imploy, such as Clients, Staff, Sites, or Incidents. Once created, the attribute can be placed on that object’s profile so your team has a consistent place to record that information.

Before you start

You need access to Settings to manage attributes.

If your workspace is on the Free tier, configuring attributes for Clients, Staff, and Sites is Premium. Incidents can still be configured without Premium. If you are locked out, Imploy will direct you to the Subscription page.

How to create an attribute

Go to Settings, then open Objects. You will see a list of objects such as Clients, Sites, Staff, and Incidents.

Select the object you want to add the attribute to, then open the Attributes tab.

Click the Attribute button to open the Create Attribute window.

In the Create Attribute window, fill in the details:

Attribute name is the label users will see on the profile.

Input type controls what kind of value the field stores. The available types include Text, Number, Checkbox, Rating, Select, Multi select, Location, URL, and Date.

Description is optional, but recommended. It appears as an info tooltip next to the attribute name in the attributes list, which helps staff understand what the field is for.

If you choose Select or Multi select, you must add at least one option. Open the Options area, then use Create option to add items. Options must be unique. You can reorder them, rename them, duplicate them, delete them, and set a colour for each option.

If you choose Rating, set the maximum number of stars. This can be between 1 and 10.

If you are creating an Incident attribute, you will also see Show on submit form. Turn this on if you want the field to appear on the incident submit screen.

When you are ready, click Create Attribute. The attribute will appear in the list straight away.

What happens next

Your new attribute is created for that object, but it may not appear on profiles until it is added to the record page layout. You can do this from the Configuration tab using Configure Page.

Troubleshooting

If Create Attribute is disabled or you are redirected to Subscription, your plan or permissions may not allow attribute configuration for that object.

If you see an error that the attribute name is required, make sure Attribute name is not blank.

If you see an error that you must add at least one option, choose Select or Multi select and add options before creating the attribute.

If you see an error about duplicate option names, rename the options so each one is unique.
