Inbox Monster Set Up

Sending a campaign to our Inbox Monster seed list will provide an inbox placement test that you can find in the "Delivery" > "Campaigns" section of the platform.

Our full seed list can be found in the ⚙️Gear Icon > Setup and Integrations > Seedlist - Emails.

Here are a few items to keep in mind when sending a seed list test via Klaviyo:

  • For any campaigns that don't send to the seed list, be sure to add the full seed list to the "don't send to" exclusion section. Some of the email addresses will be subscribed and may fall into some segmentations — resulting in skewed data points and metrics.

  • Don't use Smart Sending, A/B Split Tests, and Journeys while you are sending to the seed list.

Smart Sending Must-Knows:

"... allows you to limit the number of emails, SMS messages, or push notifications someone can receive within a set period of time."

If you are utilizing the Smart Sending feature in Klaviyo, this will send to individual users with a 16-hour window based on some behavior metrics and variables.

This will delay the seeds from being delivered. Be sure that Smart Sending is OFF while testing with the Inbox Monster seed list.

The Smart Sending will also skip sending to certain users if they have recently received it. This can cause missing seed placement results within Inbox Monster.

AB Testing Must-Knows:

"...allows you to easily test different subject lines, message content, and send times so you can better understand what works best for your audience."

When seed list testing with the AB testing method, this will split up our 400+ email addresses resulting in 2 separate inbox placement tests.

50% to campaign A.

50% to campaign B.

Since each campaign has a unique ID used to organize and display the results, only half of the seeds will be displayed. You can also merge the seed results into one final campaign for accurate inbox placement results.

Testing Live Flows:

If there is any important flow automation that your team would like to test, you can duplicate the content as a single campaign or create a new flow schedule.

Select the cadence that you'd like to test (e.g. Abandoned Browser Emails - 1x week on Monday). You must add the same email campaign within the flow multiple times to define the cadence of the recurring seed list test.

Be sure that there are no conditions within the flow automation.

The trigger to start a flow is likely based on the subscription date from the list — all of the seed list addresses must have the same subscription date for proper inbox placement results.

Let's Begin Seed List Testing:

Be sure that you are aware of the specific methods of seed list testing with Klaviyo — listed in the previous sections.

  1. Download the Inbox Monster Seed List.

  2. Add the full Inbox Monster Seed List addresses and add them as a List.

    1. Next, navigate to the Lists & Segments tab in your account.

    2. Click Create List / Segment in the upper right corner.

    3. Select Segment.

    4. Use the segment builder to add conditions and specify who should be included in your segment.

    5. Once you are satisfied with the definition you create, click Create Segment.

    6. Label these addresses something like "Inbox Monster Seed Addresses."

    7. Send away!

Here are a couple of recommendations when it comes to sending your campaign tests:

  • You can attach the Inbox Monster Seed List to live campaigns from Klaviyo.

  • You can duplicate the live campaigns and seed them X hours later.

  • If you have no new campaigns scheduled, you can clone existing blast campaigns and seed them again.

You can follow the strategy that works best for you.

Here are a couple of recommendations when it comes to testing your automation:

  • Duplicate pre-existing automation (e.g. Abandoned Cart, Winback Series, etc).

  • Select and adjust the cadence based on how often you'd like to send a seed list test.

  • Be sure that all of the existing seed addresses have the same subscription date for proper inbox placement results.
