Before you start
When changing opening conditions, keep in mind:
Open day and score conditions behave differently
Changes apply after you re‑publish the course
Learners’ existing results are re‑checked when they visit the assessment or open the Tasks list after changes are published
Access behaves differently depending on how a learner first accessed the assessment. If a learner unlocks an assessment by meeting a score condition, they keep access, even if you change the score, republish the course, or later add an open day.
If a learner gains access through an open day, they can lose access if the date changes or the condition is replaced.
How re‑checking works for learners
If you update a score condition and republish:
Existing submissions for the updated task or quiz are re‑evaluated
This happens when learners visit the assessment or open their Tasks list
If they now meet the condition, the assessment unlocks
How to edit or remove an opening condition
To edit a condition, update the selected values (for example, the score or opening date) and save your changes. To remove a condition, clear it and save. Publish the course to apply any changes to current and future class activations.
When you update a condition and republish, the impact depends on the type of condition and whether learners already have access. Learners who already meet a score condition keep access, while learners who accessed an assessment through an open day may lose access if the condition changes.
When you remove a condition, it is removed from all class activations. Learners who were previously blocked can access the assessment, and no learners lose access as a result of the change.
Tip: Removing a condition is the most reliable way to restore access for all learners.
Editing a score-based condition
Score-based conditions depend on a learner’s result in a task or quiz. You can update the required score, or change the task or quiz used in the condition.
When you make a change and republish the course, learners who already have access to the assessment keep it. These changes do not affect their access.
For learners who do not yet have access, their existing results are re‑checked when they visit the assessment or open the Tasks list.
If their result meets the updated requirement, the assessment unlocks. If it does not, the assessment remains locked until they meet the new condition.
Editing an open day condition
Open day conditions control access based on a specific date.
When you update an open day and republish the course, learners who have not yet reached the date will need to wait until the new opening date to access the assessment.
If a learner has already reached the original open day and gained access, changing the date can affect them. Moving the date later will remove their access until the new date is met. Once the new date is reached, access is restored.
If you replace an open day with a score condition, learners must meet the score requirement to access the assessment. This means learners who previously accessed the assessment through the open day may lose access if they have not met the new score condition.
Changing or deleting a task used in a condition
Changing the task
If you update a condition to use a different task, existing access is not affected. Learners who already have access keep it, while learners who do not yet have access must meet the new condition going forward.
If a learner has already attempted the task used in the updated condition, their best submission is automatically re‑evaluated against the new score. This happens when they visit the Tasks list or open the assessment.
Deleting the task
If a task (or its page) is deleted, you’ll see a warning before confirming the change. Any condition that depends on that task is automatically removed, and it no longer restricts access to the assessment.
Common scenarios
Learners meet the requirement but are locked
Learners’ results are re‑checked automatically when they navigate to or refresh the Tasks list, or visit the content page containing the assessment. If they meet the updated score condition, it will unlock.
Incorrect conditions in a live course
Remove the condition to restore access for all learners.
Different setup needed for one class
Disable relative dates for that class.
Good practice
Be cautious when editing conditions in active courses
Avoid adding new score conditions midway through a course
When unsure, remove the condition instead of editing it
Test changes in a non-live course first
