How to navigate your course

The video below will give you a quick overview of the different ways you can get around your course. Read on for written instructions.

How to use the left menu to get to different areas of your course

When you're in a course, you'll see a menu on the left. Simply select any of the menu items to get to that spot.

Tip: On a mobile device, you'll find the menu (three horizontal lines) in the bottom left corner.

How to use the arrows at the bottom of the page

At the bottom of each page you'll see arrows.

Use the Left/Right arrows to move backwards and forwards through the pages of your course.

Use the Curved back arrow to take you to wherever you just were in the course.

Use the Up arrow to go to the top of the page you're on.

Tip: You might also see a phone, this gives your learning provider's support contact information.

How to use Contents to get to a specific page

Contents (found in your left menu) is another useful way to explore your course.

Sections and subsections show with a chevron (down arrow). Select them to expand and see the pages listed within them. Select them again to collapse them. You can also use Expand or Collapse to expand/collapse all sections in the course.

You can select a page to go directly to that page.

Each page has a time indicator set by the course author. These times are a guide as to how long it will take you to read a page and complete any discussions or tasks.

  • Unread pages have a thin circle.

  • In progress pages (viewed the page but not all tasks have been completed) have a thick circle.

  • Completed pages (viewed the page and completed any tasks on the page) have a circle with a tick.

There is also a similar indicator next to sections to show if they are unread, in progress, or complete (all pages in the section completed).

The page you were on when you opened Contents menu will be shaded (as seen in the image above).

Tip: You can use the arrow (or your browser's back button) to get back to the page you were on.

How to use Search to find something in the course content

You can search your course to find a particular term or to find something you've previously read.

Our search is smart and aims to present all relevant results. For example if you search for "orbit", it also shows results for "orbits" and "orbital".

Select Search on the left menu and enter the word(s) you're looking for. Here is an example of how the result will look.

The number of results are displayed at the top of the page with a maximum of 10 results per page. Results on pages that you haven't read yet will have a bold link and pages that have already visited will have a Read label next to them and the link will be grey.

You can jump straight to the page the results are on using the page link.

To get back to your course, use the back button on your browser (or at the bottom of the page).
