Which tasks are compatible with similarity checking enabled

There are two task types that are compatible with similarity checking:

  1. File upload - Allows learners to upload files, listed here are the specific file types that Turnitin allow for checking.

  2. Essay - Allows learners to submit written text.

How to add a new task with similarity checking enabled

  1. This part of the process is the same as adding a usual task.

Navigate to the page you want to add the task, select + then Task

This image shows the plus button and the menu items, including the task menu item.

2. Select Similarity check enabled task type then either:

  • File upload with similarity check or

  • Essay with similarity check.

3. Continue to add the task details and settings as required.

How to replace an existing Task with a similarity enabled Task

If you have an existing task and want to replace it with a similarity-enabled task, follow these steps:

  • If no learners have studied or are currently studying the course: Delete the task and rebuild it following the steps above.

  • If learners have already studied or are currently studying the course: If learners have submitted against this task, add a task variation before removing the original task. This will ensure that all previous submissions are retained. View the instructions below for more detail.

Notes:

  • The Turnitin tasks can only be used as stand alone tasks. They can't be used as part of a quiz.

  • In order for a content check to be completed, submissions must have a minimum of 20 words.

  • The maximum file size is 2MB and must be no more than 800 pages.
