Overview
Sometimes you need to add a product or service to an invoice that doesn't exist in your inventory yet. Instead of leaving the invoice to create the item first, you can add it "on the fly" directly from the invoice screen - the new product gets created and added as a line item in one step.
This article walks through how to do that.
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Open the invoice
Navigate to the invoice you want to add a product to (or start a new one).
2. Start adding a new line item
Click into the Add Product/Service field on the invoice to begin adding a line item.
3. Search for the product
Click the dropdown box of the product or service. If it doesn't already exist in your inventory, you can add it here.
4. Choose to add it as a new product
Select the option to +Add New to add as a new product rather than picking an existing one. This opens a quick-add form without leaving the invoice.
5. Fill in the product details
Enter the details for the new product, such as:
Name/Description
Quantity
Price
Taxable status (if applicable)
6. Save the product
Click the check mark to save to create the product and add it to the invoice at the same time.
7. Confirm the line item is added
The new product now appears as a line item on the invoice, and the invoice total updates automatically to reflect it.
Notes
Products added this way are saved to your inventory going forward, so you won't need to re-create them the next time you need them on an invoice.
Double-check pricing and tax settings when adding a product this way, since these can be easy to overlook in the quick-add form.
