Ithy respects your privacy and provides several options for managing or deleting your information from the platform.

This guide explains the different deletion processes available and what happens to your data in each case. We provides options for users to manage their content and account information, including deleting individual articles and, if necessary, requesting the deletion of their entire account.

Please read the following carefully to understand how these processes work.

Deleting an Individual Article

You have control over the articles you generate and can delete them from your account if you no longer need them. Only the owner of an article can delete it.

How to Delete an Article:

  1. Ensure You Are Signed In: You must be logged into your Ithy account to delete your articles.

  2. Locate the Article: You can find your articles in the "Article History" section of your Account page (https://ithy.com/account).

  3. Find the Delete Option: Associated with each article in your history list, there should be a "Delete Article" button or a trash can icon. You can also find a delete option on the individual article's page itself if you own the article.

  4. Confirm Deletion: Click the delete option. The system will ask you to confirm that you want to permanently delete the article, as this action cannot be undone.

  5. Verification of Ownership: The system will verify that you are the owner of the article before proceeding with the deletion.

Effect of Deleting an Article:

  • The article is permanently removed from the Ithy database.

  • It will no longer be accessible via its unique URL.

  • If the article was part of any of your folders, it will be removed from those folders' lists.

  • Points earned from generating the article remain in your account

Deleting Folders

To delete a collection of articles while keeping the articles themselves:

  1. Access Your Folders:

    • Log in to your Ithy account

    • Navigate to the "Folders" section on your Account page

  2. Delete the Folder:

    • Find the folder you want to delete

    • Click the delete option associated with that folder

    • Confirm the deletion when prompted

  3. What Happens:

    • The folder itself is deleted

    • The list of articles associated with that folder is removed

    • The articles themselves remain in your account and Article History

    • The folder's public URL (/page/<folder_id>) will no longer be accessible

Cancelling Your Ithy Pro Subscription

If you are an Ithy Pro subscriber and wish to stop your subscription, this does not automatically delete your account or your past articles. It only cancels the recurring payments and reverts your account to the Free Tier at the end of your current billing period.

  1. Access Subscription Management:

    • Log in to your Ithy account

    • Navigate to your Account page

    • Look for "Manage Subscription"

      • If the "Manage Subscription" button is not shown on your account page, it usually means your subscription has already been cancelled, or you do not have an active Ithy Pro subscription.

  2. Cancel the Subscription:

    • Click on "Manage Subscription" to access the Stripe Customer Portal

    • Follow the cancellation process in the portal

    • Confirm your cancellation

  3. What Happens:

    • Your subscription will not renew at the end of the current billing period

    • You retain Pro access until the end of your paid period

    • After that, your account reverts to the free tier with standard limitations

    • All your content remains accessible, subject to free tier viewing limitations

Effect of Cancellation

Your Pro features will remain active until the end of your current paid billing cycle. After that, your account will switch to the Free Tier, and you will still have access to your account, your article history (generated under both Pro and Free tiers), and any features available to free registered users.

Your articles and folders will not be deleted by cancelling your subscription.

Deleting Your Entire Account

If you wish to permanently delete your entire Ithy account and all associated personal information and generated content, you will need to make a formal request.

How to Request Account Deletion:

  1. Compose an email from the email address associated with your Ithy account.

  2. Send the email to wluk@ithy.com.

  3. Use the specific subject line: "Delete Account". This subject line helps the support team identify and process your request correctly.

  4. You may want to briefly state in the body of the email that you wish to permanently delete your Ithy account.

Processing Your Request:

  • The Ithy team will process your account deletion request. This process may take some time to complete as it involves removing your data from their systems.

  • A human confirms identity, cancels any active subscription, and starts a GDPR-compliant wipe—typically within five business days.

  • They may contact you to confirm your request before proceeding with the deletion.

  • For single articles or folders, there’s no “undo.” For account deletions, you have a 24-hour grace window after the confirmation email—reply “STOP” to halt the wipe. After that, recovery is impossible.

Effect of Account Deletion:

  • Permanent Removal: Your user profile, including your login credentials, custom settings, and any accumulated points or rank, will be permanently deleted.

  • Deletion of All Articles: All articles you have generated and saved to your account will be permanently deleted from the Ithy database.

  • Deletion of Folders: All folders you have created and their associations with articles will be deleted.

  • Irreversible Action: Account deletion is a permanent and irreversible action. Once your account is deleted, you will not be able to recover your data or your past articles. If you think you might want to use Ithy again in the future, consider simply remaining on the Free Tier or cancelling a Pro subscription instead of deleting your entire account.

Important Considerations Before Deleting

Ithy provides deletion options to give you control over your data and content. Please use them thoughtfully, understanding the implications of each action.

  • Backup Your Data: If there are any articles or information you wish to keep, make sure to export or save them (e.g., as PDFs, by copying content) before requesting account deletion or deleting individual articles you might need later.

  • Impact on Shared Content: If you have shared links to your articles or public folder pages, these links will no longer work after the articles or account are deleted.

If you have any doubts or specific concerns about your data, it's always a good idea to contact support before proceeding with irreversible actions like account deletion. Respecting your right to erasure is built into Ithy’s DNA—just be sure you really mean goodbye before you press send.
